In 1968 we (Ribault High school football team) played Wolfson in the Gator Bowl as Wolfson was a new school and didnt have a football stadium yet. Wolfson beat us soundly and William impressed us all with his football abilities. Bill went to Duke and I went to Troy University but I kept track of this fine student and athlete, RIP Bill, would have loved meeting you in person.

I have so many wonderful high school memories of Bill Thompson. Beyond his football talent, the thing that stands out the most is his strong faith in God. Even as a teenager he was a young man of character and insight. My deepest condolences to his family.

I was so looking forward to seeing Bill agian at our upcoming Class of '69 45th Reunion. Thankfully I last met Bll at of 40th Class Reunion having not seen him in years. The 1st time I met Bill was at Crabtree Park playing Little League Baseball before he found his true sports talent as an outstanding football player.

I knew Bill as an opposing player. I was An Englewood Ram. Bill and I became friends during track season. He could outrun everyone in the state. He ran right past me on his way for a 99 yard touchdown our senior year. Bill was just a great guy. He would talk to everyone even his rivals. Off the field we were all friends. On the field he was the best pure running back in the state. My prayers have been with Bill and his family. He will be missed. He will not be forgotten

Bill and I were on the high school track team. He was a star sprinter, and I was no star. Bill was always kind and inclusive. When I think of Bill, I think of a man who wore his laurels with modesty.

I grew up in the same neighborhood with Anne and Bill,Bill was a great guy and will be missed. One quick story of how Bill started carrying the football. Bill's grandfather brought Bill out to try out for our Pop Warner football team, I guess he was 12 years of age. We were 13 and 14. The new guys were always placed as a defensive back. We had a running back by the name of Clyde Revels. In practice, every time Clyde would get around the corner, coach would blow the whistle because no one could catch him. On one particular play Clyde got around the corner and this young kid ran Clyde down and tackled him. Coach Simpson said son, come over here on the offense side of the ball. End of story. We were the Lakewood San Jose Dragons. (Love you Bill)

I am proud to say I knew Bill Thompson. I played football with Bill at Wolfson Senior High School when I was a Junior. I've always referred to Bill as one of the fastest persons I have ever known when coaching my Pewee Football teams and talking to my friends about football. God Bless You Bill and God be with his Family during this trying time.

I was in the class of '69 but was pretty much a quiet nerd and never knew Bill except from afar--he was absolutely thrilling to watch on the field and because of him I still like football. I remember that 99 yard run. Butr, I also remember Bill as polite, humble, smart and a great student--the epitome of the all-around good guy. I ended up a lawyer too and remember seeing a blurb about a speech he was giving on the Florida Bar website a few years ago--I was so excited; it brought back great memories. My condolences to his family.--Christy (Bay) Fisher

Though I first new Bill only as that star running back two years ahead of me at Wolfon, who seemed to be humble, authentic and kind even so, I later knew him as a young lawyer, by then also a young father and husband, who continued to demonstrate the very same qualities. He was a good man.

I knew Bill as a leader, and as President, of the Florida Bar Foundation, where we served together for nearly a decade. I knew him to be a man of keen insight into people and situations, with a great sense of humor. He could be trusted with great responsibility, and counted upon to ask the questions that needed to be asked. His impact on the Bar Foundation was huge, and it will resonate forever--through the generations--in the way he helped the system help the poor obtain the legal services they needed. My deepest sympathy to his family for their loss.
