DENNIS McCAIG Obituary

Dennis J. McCaig, 59, of Knoxville, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at home with Lisa Payne, by his side. Born on November 25, 1965, in Hornell, N.Y., Denny was the son of the late Ronald A. and Eva A. (Williams) McCaig. Arriving on Thanksgiving Day, Denny loved to tell how he made his mother spend the holiday in the hospital.
Denny grew up on the family farm in Rathbone. He was a 1983 graduate of Jasper Central School and after working at Metamora Plastics in Elkland, began his 40-year construction career in 1985 in Sharptown, Md., as an Oiler on the "Grey Ghost," before becoming a pile driver on the DC interchange, and the Corning Bypass. After 30 years, Denny retired from Cold Springs Construction as a crane operator, where he traveled from all over Upstate and Western New York and Northwest Pennsylvania. He took great pride working with his crane.
In recent years, Denny loved camping with friends and family, listening to music, and having drinks by the campfire at Tumble Hill. He enjoyed watching Gunsmoke with Festus, then discussing the show with his brother, Ron (Prod). Denny loved people and telling stories.
He was a lifetime member of The American Legion. He always recognized our Veterans with a handshake or offering to buy their meal. Denny had many friends and loved ones.
In addition to his parents, Denny is predeceased by his sister and brother in-law, Karleen and Robert McCarthy, and his niece, Latrisha McCaig. Denny has spent the past seven years with Lisa Payne, who he fondly referred to as Gert.
Denny is survived by his children, McKenna (G. Justin) Schuver of Tampa, Fla., Nicholas J. McCaig of Addison, N.Y., Morgan McCaig of Athens, Hailey McCaig of Athens, and Schaelynn McCaig of Athens; grandchildren, Audrey Rumsey of Campbell, N.Y. and G. Austin Schuver of Tampa Fla.; siblings, Carolyn McCaig of Addison, Donald (Michaeleen) McCaig of Addison, Ronald (Jenny) McCaig of Woodhull and Glenn (Melody Robinson) McCaig of Addison and many nieces and nephews.
Denny also became close with the parents and brother of Lisa Payne, Gordon (Gloria) Hurler and predeceased Paul Hurler.
The family would like to invite friends and family to visitation at Kenyon Funeral Home, 214 W. Main St., Elkland, PA, on Friday, March 21, 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 22 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Tim Miller officiating.
