DONALD MELKO Obituary

Donald John Melko, 86, passed away on December 15, 2023, in Phoenix, Ariz. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Born on April 20, 1937, in Wellsboro, Don was known for his warm personality and kind-hearted nature. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Don had a passion for golf and spending time with his kitties.
He cherished the moments shared with his family, including his wife, Carolyn; daughter, Michelle; brother, James (Joann); sister, Linda; granddaughters, Danielle (Frank) and Deanna; grandson, Donovan (Sabrina); great-grandsons, Jayden, Michael 1st and Deacon; great-granddaughters, LillyAnn, Briella, Hadley, Bonnie and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael Melko and Bertha Thompson; daughter, Melissa; son, Michael; grandson, Michael Jr.; sisters, CarolAnn and Rosemarie Clendenin.
Don's military service was a significant part of his life. He served in the Navy from 1955 to 1959 and later in the Army from 1961 to 1964. His dedication and commitment to his country were commendable.
After his military service, Don had a successful career in the telephone industry, retiring as District Manager for Alltel. He was highly respected by his colleagues and made lasting contributions to the industry.
Don's hobbies included golfing and gardening, which brought him joy and relaxation throughout his life. He found solace in nature and the serenity of the golf course.
A very important part of his daily routine was putting aside time to read God's word in his beloved Bible.
A memorial service will be held on March 26, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, located at 23029 N Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85024.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Wounded Warriors, or local animal shelters. These were causes close to Don's heart.
Donald John Melko will be remembered as a loving family man, a dedicated veteran, and a respected professional. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
