MARLENE WETMORE Obituary

Marlene Borck Wetmore, born on September 6, 1934, in Elmira, N.Y. to Otto and Gertrude Borck, passed away May 4, 2024, in Austin, Texas, aged 89.
A celebration of her life will be held at the "farmhouse" on Merrick Hill, Knoxville on June 26, at 11:30 a.m. Memories will be shared, a few songs sung, and a luncheon will be served following.
Marlene was a force of nature. She was adventurous, independent with a business acumen second to none. She was known for her keen financial sense and leadership qualities.
She traveled the globe with her lifelong friend Maryanne Giangobbe.
They enjoyed 25 trips in total, from Northern Europe to Hawaii. They were devout cruisers and so enjoyed meeting new people.
For many that knew Marlene, a particular favorite part of her personality was her sense of humor. Her jokes were known to be witty, quick and as she grew older a bit risqué (to the delight of her grandchildren).
Marlene's independent and adventurous spirit was matched only by the care and compassion she showed to those around her. She was married to Foster Wetmore for over two thirds of a century and over 3/4 of her life. She raised three daughters, all professional women, raised with values she held dear. She was a devoted and involved (great)grandmother to all her nine (great)grandchildren, who shared between 2 and 41 years with her.
Many will remember Marlene for her generosity in terms of her time, talents and gifts. She believed in one rule, if she could help, she did. Her generous acts touched many lives and will continue to do so.
Marlene strongly believed that all were to be welcomed and included, whether church, 4-H or any other community project. She fought to ensure that no one ever felt left out or behind,
She is survived by her husband, Foster Wetmore; sisters, Emily Schwab of Montour Falls, N.Y.; Cindy Nelson and husband Richard; Elaine Swiss and husband Bill; Nancy Soneson and husband Mark; grandchildren, Sally Nelson McGarry (Travis), Thomas Nelson (Kerry) and Emma (Erik), Gunnar and Colton Soneson; great-grandchildren, Drake and Reiner McGarry and Leo and Gwen Nelson; and many beloved and devoted nieces and nephews.

Marlene was a very special woman. At this time we look back and remember all she did. She was very giving and caring ,but at the same time a very strong woman. She raised her girls with her same values and they continue to carry on those giving caring ways. She is missed but not forgotten!
