RICHARD SEXAUER Obituary

Richard L. Sexauer, 75, of Wellsboro, peacefully passed on Thursday, February 6, 2025. He was born on January 20, 1950, in Erie, son of the late Richard and Shirley (Cassidy Lay) Sexauer.
Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Celeste Burns of Wellsboro; his beloved children, Staci Sexauer of Wellsboro; Kristine Van Tassel of Elizabethtown; and Adam Sexauer and daughter-in-law Kim of Covington; his brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Sue Sexauer, of Erie; his sister, Diane Sexauer and brother-in-law, Bill Ray, of Erie; and his six grandchildren, Jericho, Gaven, and Luke Sexauer, Hannah Park, Ben and Aaron Van Tassel; sisters-in-law, Jessie Wolfe and Juliette Shearer (John Anderson), brothers in-law, Jim Burns and Jerry Siliano and many nieces and nephews on whom he made an impact.
Richard worked for 25 years with the Tioga County Human Services Agency, serving as Director of Daycare, and later Director of Community Service. He was also instrumental in establishing the elementary school at Trinity Lutheran, where he served as a Director of Education for many years.
Richard embraced learning and creating, pursuing many passions throughout his life. He built the family home, making it the heart of a lifetime of memories for his wife, children, and grandchildren. A skilled artist and craftsman, he found joy in painting, woodworking, and boat building - including a sailboat now on display at the St. Augustine Lighthouse. He loved the outdoors and spent years exploring it through beekeeping, archery hunting, scuba diving, and hiking.
Beyond his many skills and interests, what mattered most to Richard was his family. He was always there for his family - cheering from the stands at his grandchildren's games, passing down his knowledge, or quietly offering his support. Richard never sought recognition or fanfare; he simply lived by the values of family, responsibility and taking care of those he loved. Richard's impact will live on in the lives he touched, the lessons he shared, and the family he built with love, dedication, and quiet strength.
A private family service was held on Monday, February 10. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service honoring Richard's life on March 29 at 11 a.m.at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Wellsboro. Interment will be in the Wellsboro Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center intended for youth programming.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., Wellsboro. www.carletonfh.com
