Alfred J. 'Al' Michalik

Alfred J. "Al" Michalik, 89, of Hazle Township, formerly born and raised in Summit Hill, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025, at his residence. He was the husband of Joanne (Gurka) Michalik, having been married for 59 years this past Oct. 2.

He was the son of the late John A. Michalik and Steffie (Kostecky) Michalik.

Al was a graduate of the last class at the former St. Ann's High School in Lansford, having been the captain of the football team as well as the class salutatorian. He then went on to graduate from Penn State University, having received a degree in business.

He started his working career as a stock broker for a few years and last became the manager of Drake Bakeries in East Brunswick, N.J., where he retired.

Al served in the U.S. Army for two years, having been stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sheppton, and the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree.

Al most of all loved playing golf and teaching several members of his family to play as well.

Surviving along with his loving wife are his sons, Stephen Michalik of New York City and Kenneth Michalik and Alfred M. Michalik, both of Forbes, N.J.; sisters-in-law, Elinore Michalik of Lehighton and Susan Porchetta, and her husband, Mario, of South Plainfield, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, John Michalik, and a sister, Margie Bretz.

Services: Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley, 462 W. Ludlow St., Summit Hill, with the Rev. Eric Gruber officiating. Interment will follow at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Summit Hill. Call 10-11 a.m. Tuesday in the church. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Funeral arrangements have been placed in the care of the Parambo Funeral Home, Summit Hill. Online condolences may be shared at www.parambofh.com.
