Blaise Scapanda Obituary

Blaise A. Scapanda
Blaise A. Scapanda, 80, of 160 Eastside Ave., Lehighton, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 3, in the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton. He was the husband of Ruth Louise (Scheuermann) Scapanda.
Born in Summit Hill, he was a son of the late Blue and Catherine (Rhodunda) Scapanda.
A 1951 graduate of the former Summit Hill High School, he enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War and served in Adak, Alaska, on board the USS San Marcos.
He was a communications technician/radio operator, having attained the rank of Petty Officer 3.
He studied printing and graphic arts upon his discharge and worked at the P.B. & N.E. Railroad at the Bethlehem Steel Corporation; the Lehighton Leader newspaper, the Jim Thorpe Times News, the Lansford Evening Record, and retired from Hughes Magazine Printing, East Stroudsburg.
He was of the Catholic faith.
In his spare time, he was an avid golfer and loved to play his keyboard.
Among his memberships were the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, East Stroudsburg Typographical Union, International Typographical Union, the Printing Sector of the AFL-CIO and the American Legion.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a brother Richard, and his wife, Lola, of Wilkes-Barre; two sisters, Betty Odenheimer of Philadelphia and Shirley Brinkos of Summit Hill; four children, Linda, wife of Jack Dopira, Lisa, wife of Dale Coombe, and Lori, wife of Dean Braim, all of Summit Hill, and Blaise III, and his wife, Lori, of New Ringgold; four stepchildren, Lisa, wife of Terry Neff, Sheryl, wife of Chris Dailey of Lehighton, Joey Lower, and his wife, Denise, of Palmerton, and Jeannine Hunsicker in Florida; 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Service: Private funeral service and interment at convenience of family. Arrangements by Andrew P. Ovsak Funeral Home, Fourth and Iron streets, Lehighton. Contributions in his name may be made to the American Heart Assoc., 212 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, Pa. 18018. Online condolences can be offered at www.ovsakfh.com.

Blaise scapanda was a wonderful man ,father , husband ,grandfather.... I could go on and on. He loved children, golf , crossword puzzles and his whole family. He will be sadly missed by everyone !
