Clair Costenbader Obituary
Clair Calvin Costenbader, (Costy), 81, of Effort, passed away on Friday, Aug. 22, 2025, in the Gracedale Nursing Home, Nazareth. He was the husband of Patricia Costenbader. They were married for 65 years.
He worked for 45 years as a carpenter.
Born in Kunkletown, he was a son of the late Leroy and Emma Costenbader.
He was an active member of the Jaycees and Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening and bowling. He also enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams: Phillies, Eagles and 76ers.
Clair fought his battle with Dementia for five years. Despite spending much of his time trying to remember names of friends and family, he never lost his sense of humor and light-hearted jokes. He had the great ability to make others smile and his sense of humor will be missed.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a daughter Debra, wife of Barry James; a sister Phyllis, wife of Gary Geiss; grandchildren, Heather Spooner, Michael Lambert and Kelly English; and great-grandchildren, Autumn Gurtlinger, Noah Gurtlinger, Faith Gurtlinger, Corinne Beltran and Jackson English.
Preceding him in peace were his son, Kevin Costenbader, and three brothers, Larry, Lee and Roy Costenbader.
Service: Memorial service 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Rt. 209, Brodheadsville, with the Rev. David Felker officiating. Visitation 3-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6.
