Donald Shea Obituary
Donald V. Shea Jr., 86, of Maple Lane, Palmerton, Lower Towamensing Township, died early Monday morning, Nov. 25, in the VNA Hospice House at St. Luke's, Lower Saucon Township. He was the husband of the late Eleanore C. (Konetchy) Shea, who died last May.
He was the owner/operator of Shea's Hardware Store, Palmerton, for over 50 years.
Born in Weissport, he was a son of the late Donald V. Sr. and Irene (Kresge) Shea.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Palmerton.
A 1945 graduate of William Allen High School, he served in the Merchant Marines and the Army and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater, and also the Korean War Era. He attained the rank of sergeant.
Shea was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree, Lafayette Council, Palmerton.
He was a charter member of P.A.C.E., a former board member of the Palmerton Memorial Park Association, Palmerton Lions Club and Palmerton Chamber of Commerce, and a member of and avid golfer at the Blue Ridge Country Club, Palmerton.
Surviving are three daughters, Patricia, wife of Richard Blucavage of Accokeek, Md., Catherine, wife of William Long of Morgantown, and Jane, wife of James Cosgrove Jr. of White Haven; two sons, Bernard, and his wife, Debra, and Edward, both of Palmerton; 11 grandchildren, Amy, Peter, Julie, Stephen, Becky, Michael, Maire, Caitrin, James III, Thomas and Ann; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Olivia Nonweiler of Lehighton, Joan Diefenderfer of Allentown and Mary Ellen Orach of Coopersburg; a brother Ronald, and his wife, Shirley, of Washington, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a son Timothy; and four brothers, James. Gordon (Hank), Daniel and Michael.
Service: Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Palmerton. Interment, parish's new cemetery, Palmerton. Call 8:30-10:30 a.m. Friday, Campton Funeral Home, 525 Delaware Ave., Palmerton. Online condolences can be offered at www.schislerfuneralhomes.com. To the Shea Family -- our heartfelt sympathy at the loss of one of the "good guys", Don Shea. For so many years, we enjoyed saying hi and talking with him as he tended to the store. He was a gentle soul and we're blessed to have been able to call him our friend. He will be watching over all of you, we have no doubt.

Bernie and Eddie, I am saddened to hear of the loss of your Dad. My condolences to you and your families. After moving to NY, when coming home to visit my family, I would stop in at the paint department to talk with your Dad. I always enjoyed talking with Don.
