Dorothy Mayernik Obituary

Dorothy Mayernik
Dorothy Mayernik passed away on June 26, 2021.
Dorothy (Dotty) was 80 years old and was a daughter of the late Joseph Thomas and Beatrice (Rohlfing) Thomas of Tamaqua. Dotty was preceded in death by the love of her life, Mike (Swati) Mayernik Sr., who passed away in 2012.
Dotty was also preceded in death by her sister Beverly Gotwalt Mattrazzo; and her brother, William Robert Thomas.
She and her husband Mike raised five children in their loving home on Oak Street in Lansford.
Their home was always the center of family get-togethers and her garden was always full of the nicest flowers, birds, butterflies and Amish decorations!
Surviving are children, Frances Zalusky (wife of Frank), JoAnn Parfitt (wife of Howard), Patricia Sanders (wife of Allan), Mike Mayernik Jr. (husband of Chrissy) and Thomas Mayernik (husband of Valerie). Dotty and Mike also helped raise her nephew Darren (Skip) Thomas (husband of Laura). Dotty had six grandchildren, Diane Tristani, Allie Sanders, Michael and Kyle Mayernik and Thomas and Joseph Mayernik, she also has two great-grandchildren, Gianna and Avery Tristani, and three greatnieces, Bethany and Karyn Thomas, and Nicole Gotwalt Bucher.
Dotty graduated from Lansford High School in 1958. She worked for Carbon County Head Start and drove bus for Panther Valley School District. She later became a certified EMT and also was one of the first Carbon County 911 Communications Center switchboard operators. Later she became a switchboard operator for Coaldale State Hospital where she later retired.
Dotty and Mike started their love for traveling in a family pop-up Skamper camper that took them all all over the east coast from Maine to Florida. Her and Mike later enjoyed "gallivanting" together, especially to the Caribbean Islands, often with her brother and sister-inlaw Margie and the late Eddie Drozd, along with longtime friends Hannelore and Harry Hills. And whenever they had a free weekend you'd find them taking the "scenic route" to and from "Amish Country" (Lancaster). Once retired they enjoyed being Myrtle Beach snow birds.
Although the "Crew" will miss mom (Dotty) terribly, they are comforted by knowing that she and her high school sweetheart Mike are once again reunited. RIP Mom. Love, the Crew!
Service: Memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. from the Thomas J. Parambo Funeral Home, 54 W. Fell St., Summit Hill. Interment will follow at Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown. Calling hours are on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Dotty loved sitting on her back porch and camping, watching all the birds, butterflies and other wildlife enjoy nature, so in lieu of flowers the family is suggesting contributions be made to the Carbon County Environmental Education Center at www.carboneec.org/contribute in her name. Dotty and Mike were our dear friends in Myrtle Beach and in PA. Our times together were with so much fun and laughter. Movies, dinners, beaches. We enjoyed all that life gives. I will miss being in the same space as Dotty, and knowing she is here. But, she is now with " her Mike." " There will never be another Mike," she would tell me. You are together again, dear heart.....together again. Love You, Margaret and Ray

Dotty was an amazing person! We spent many hours in the ambulances when I was a teen. She truly cared about people in the community and those she served with. She had helped me during my battle with cancer at the age of 17. When I worked at Coaldale State General Hospital, I would spend time talking with her and she always had a way to make you feel good on days when I felt down. “ Lord, in your hands, we humbly entrust Dotty. In this life she embraced those around her with Your tender Love. She is in a place where there is no sorrow, no weeping or pain. She brought about us the peace and joy you want us to feel, no she will have endless peace and joy with You. No and forever, AMEN”
