Edward J. Hilferty

Edward J. Hilferty, 78, formerly of Fort Myers and Macungie, passed away on July 15, 2024, surrounded by his wife of 58 years, Judy, and his family.

He was born in Jim Thorpe on Nov. 30, 1945, to the late William and Ann Hilferty.

Eddie graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Jim Thorpe before beginning his nearly 40-year career with the Norfolk Southern Railroad, formerly Conrail, and the Lehigh Valley Railroad.

Eddie was an avid golfer and fisherman, and dabbled in many other hobbies over the years. He will be remembered for his humor and great storytelling, especially by his grandchildren.

Eddie is survived by his loving wife Judy; daughters, Connie Rimple and her husband Rick, and Colleen Hilferty and her husband David; grandchildren, Patrick, Ryan, Maeve and Eamon; sisters, Ann Louise Tancredi and Kathy Staszeski and her husband Joe; brother, Father John Hilferty; sisters-in-law, Linda Kitchen and her husband George, and Pinky Herman; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also predeceased by his brother, Billy Hilferty; and brother-in-law, Paul Herman.

Service: Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Friday, July 19, St. Joseph Catholic Church, 526 North St., Jim Thorpe. Interment, private. Arrangements by Melber Funeral Home, Jim Thorpe.
