Elizabeth "Betty" Veron Chabala

Elizabeth "Betty" Veron Chabala, 102, of Summit Hill, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023, at Liza's House Assisted Living in Danielsville.

She was the wife of the late John Chabala who passed away on Dec. 4, 2008.

Born in Lansford, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Falatovich) Veron.

Elizabeth served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corp. 13th Station Hospital in Australia and the Philippines.

As a civilian, Elizabeth worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Luke's Miner's Hospital in Coaldale. She also privately helped family and neighbors administering injections and assistance.

Betty was very dedicated to her church St. Nicholas Orthodox Church of Lansford and enjoyed helping make paskas. She also loved spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are her daughter, Roxanne Davis, and her husband, James, of Fogelsville; grandchildren, Jacquelyn Collura, M.D., and Ari Heffron, M.D., of Oregon, Marissa and Lloyd Alexander and Tom Davis of Texas; great-grandchildren, Camden Chaim Heffron, Sloane Ivy Alexander and Lane Alexander; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Michael Sabron, Frank "Teddy" Veron, Joseph Veron and a sister, Mary Veron Dubosky.

Funeral service is on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, at 11 a.m. from St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 125 W. Bertsch St., Lansford with the Rev. Jeff Zias officiating.

Interment with Military Honors will follow at St. Nicholas Orthodox Cemetery, Hometown.

Calling hours are Friday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Contributions, in her memory, may be made to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Lansford.

Funeral arrangements have been placed in the care of the Parambo Funeral Home of Summit Hill.

"A soldier has passed away today." Lieutenant, you are now relieved from post. A job well done fellow veteran. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom. We all are grateful for your stepping up to the plate when your country needed you the most. The final bugle has sounded and taps is about to sound ending a successful career as a nation´s defender. Farewell fellow veteran. A Navy Vietnam Veteran.
