Joseph J. Tibensky
Joseph J. Tibensky, 81, of Lehighton, passed away on Monday, Nov. 8, 2021, in Allentown. He was the husband of Kathleen A. (Dugan) Tibensky. They were married for 58 years on Sept. 14 of this year.
Born in Allentown on Sunday, Feb. 11, 1940, he was a son of the late Joseph and Anna (Columbo) Tibensky and was raised in Allen-
town.
He attended elementary school at St. Catherine of Sienna, Allentown, where he sang on the school choir. He graduated from Allentown High School in 1958 and then entered the U.S. Navy for four years. He was a veteran of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
After being discharged from the service, he served his apprenticeship as an iron worker with Local 36, I.A.B.S. and O.I.W. He worked on most of the schools, bridges and cement mills in the Lehigh Valley and retired from the Lehigh Valley Erectors of Bath as a general foreman.
He attended SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, Lehighton, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Calvary Council No. 528, Allentown.
Joe held a membership with the Lehighton American Legion Post 314 and volunteered his time as a
pee-wee and knee-hi football coach for the Lehighton Oklahoma Sooners. He enjoyed his weekly golf matches with his buddies and gardening as his favorite pastimes. He loved sharing his vegetables with his friends and neighbors.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Joseph J. Jr. of Lehighton; two daughters, Kelly, wife of Chris Knappenberger of Lehighton, and Kathy, wife of Tony Holland in Maryland; five grandchildren, Alyssa Miller of Andreas, Kris Knappenberger of Lehighton and Antonio Holland, a cadet at West Point, Jeremy and Jasmine Holland, in Maryland; two great-grandchildren, Kilo and Carrah Miller; a sister, Rita Tibensky of Pottstown; and nieces and nephews.
Service: Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, 260 N. Third St., Lehighton, with the Rev. Christopher M. Zelonis officiating, assisted by Deacon Joseph C. Wilhelm Jr. Interment with full military honors, parish cemetery, N. Fourth St., Lehighton, under direction of Lehighton Area UVO. Call 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday in the church. Arrangements by Ovsak Funeral Home, Lehighton. Contributions in his name may be made to the American Cancer Soc., 190 Welles St., No. 118, Forty Fort, PA 18704, or the Wounded Warrior Project, 1120 G St., NW, Suite 700, Washington D.C., 2005.
