Josephine Oliveria Obituary

Josephine G. Oliveria

Josephine G. (Damiano) Oliveria, 92, of Nesquehoning, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, in Maple Shade Meadows, Nesquehoning. She was the widow of Samuel A. "Sud" Oliveria, who passed away on Aug. 1, 1989.

She was a seamstress for 40 years in numerous garment factories in Nesquehoning and Lansford.

Born in Nesquehoning, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Virginia (Bruni) Damiano. She was a member of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Nesquehoning, and a current member of St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley, Summit Hill.

Josie loved spending time with her family and all children. She knew every word to every nursery rhyme and had all the residents at Maple Shade singing them.

Surviving are a son, Samuel A., and his wife, Esther, of Whitehall; two brothers, Baptist Damiano (Rose) of Ocean View, DE, and Anthony Damiano of Nesquehoning; a sister, Virginia Mele of Nesquehoning; two grandchildren, Teresa Oliveria and Nicole Wenhold (David); two great-grandchildren, Paige and Evan; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Michelina Eremus and Philomena Gogal; and a brother Joseph.

Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, in the Shrine of St. Therese of Lisieux, 15 E. Garibaldi Ave., Nesquehoning. Interment will be held at a later date in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Nesquehoning. Call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home, 81 E. Josie was a very dear friend who I met at Maple Shade. She praised me every time I played the piano for the residents there. She knew all the words to the church hymns by heart. I played
"Come Josephine in my flying machine" and she would sing out loud on the " UUUUP we go, UUUUp we go." I had to laugh every time. She never hesitated to tell anyone that she loved them
and usually repeated it 3 times. I played 2 of her favorites "Let there be peace on Earth" and "Here I am Lord", and all sang along. We are all better people for having known her. Love, Keith & Carole Bellhorn.

What a beautiful lady inside and out. Josie and Sud were my neighbors when I lived in New Columbus many years ago. She had a great sense of humor and always greeted my husband and I with a hug and a little bit of advice. RIP, Josie.
