Mark Cantley Obituary
Mark "Sparky" Cantley, 64, of Jim Thorpe, passed away on Thursday evening, April 12, in the St. Luke's Hospital-Gnaden Huetten Campus, Lehighton. He was the husband of Myrald (Parks) Cantley. They had been married for 27 years.
He worked most of his career as a truck driver for Plantique Landscaping, and then later worked for Lowe's before retiring.
Born in March 3, 1954, in Allentown, he was a son of the late Samuel and Elsie (Binder) Cantley.
He was a 1971 graduate of Parkland High School, where he was a starter on the varsity basketball team.
He was of the Christian faith.
He enjoyed the Green Bay Packers, helping with the Trinkles Café-Citronia flag football team and coaching Little League Baseball in Orefield. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting with friends.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a stepdaughter, Jennifer Purcell; a sister Elsie, wife of David Wascavage of Allentown; a grandson, Dennis Slater; a granddaughter, Morgan Purcell-Cooper; a great-
grandson, Aydan Purcell; and his golden retriever Mac.
Also surviving are his nieces, Sarah Wascavage of Allentown and Gwen Cantley in Ohio, and several cousins and a great-
nephew.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Cantley; and a brother, Samuel Cantley.
Service: Funeral service 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, Christ Lutheran Church, 189 Church Road, Jim Thorpe, with the Rev. John P. Hassler officiating. Interment at convenience of family. Call 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Arrangements by Shawn E. Clark Funeral Home, 200 E. Bertsch St., Lansford. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to Special Olympics - Carbon County, P.O. Box 332, Palmerton PA 18071. I wanted to say what a wonderful step father I had in Mark. We always didn't see eye to eye but that is because he always wanted the best for me. You made my mother the happiest woman on this earth and had a special kind of love you don't see everyday and a love that some of us only dream of. You may have been a big man and tried to put the fear of God in us and it worked for a while. Inside though you were the biggest teddy bear. What I wouldn't do to have you sit me down and have one of those talks one last time! I love you. Rest in heavenly peace!! I love you always and forever ❤
