Mary Scapanda Obituary
Mary Danchak Scapanda, 88, of Summit Hill, entered the Lord's House on Saturday, June 12, 2021, in the St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem Campus.
Born on March 16, 1933, to John and Susan Hrinda Lawrence Danchak (deceased), she was also preceded in death by former husband, Blase Scapanda; three brothers, Michael, John and Joseph Lawrence; and two sisters, Margaret Lawrence Gulla and Helen "Ella" Lawr-ence Hale.
Mary was the beloved mother of Lisa Coombe, Lori Braim, Linda Dopira, Blase Scapanda III and spouse Lori; Grandmother to Amy Burns, Matthew Dopira, Elizabeth Vogelsong, Dean Braim Jr. and Navy AOAN Jacob Coombe; great-grandmother to Nate, Ian, Rhys and Jax; and sister-in-law to Eva Lawrence, Shirley Brinkos and Richard Scapanda.
Mary was the Summit Hill Borough secretary for 13 years. Upon her retirement in 1998, she worked at Walters Monument Company, Summit Hill.
The simplest things in life brought our Mom joy: her home, attending mass, a walk around town, her flower garden, chatting with neighbors on her porch, visits with friends, a grilled hot dog, a tasty dessert, ice cream but, most of all, her family and she was the cherished heart and soul of ours.
Service: Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Monday, June 21, St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley, 462 W. Ludlow St., Summit Hill. Interment, St. John's Byzantine Cemetery, Summit Hill. Call 9-11 a.m. Monday in the church. Contributions in her name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, c/o the Thomas J. Parambo Funeral Home, 54 W. Fell St., Summit Hill, PA 18250.
