Nathan L. "Pud" Melber Jr.

Nathan L. "Pud" Melber Jr., 90, of Chipmunk Trail, Jim Thorpe, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, in the Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Mahoning Township. He was the husband of Joan E. (Garrett) Melber. They had been married for 26 years. His first wife, Nancy E. (Lines) Melber, the mother of his children, passed away in 1994. They had been married for 36 years.

Born in Mauch Chunk, he was a son of the late Nathan L. Melber Sr. and Dollie E. (Pry) Melber.

He had worked as a machinist for Mack Trucks of Macungie and Allentown for over 28 years until retiring.

He was also a Staff Sargeant in the U.S. Air Force, retiring after 20 years of service.

He was a 40-year member of the American Legion Post 304, Jim Thorpe.

He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Sixth and North streets, Jim Thorpe. He was very involved with the church, serving on the church council for many years, was a member of Lutheran Brotherhood, and assisted with all the church functions and activities.

Nate also was the caretaker of the Evergreen Cemetery in Jim Thorpe for many years.

He helped in many capacities over the years at the Melber Funeral Home in Jim Thorpe and also the Mayes-Melber Funeral Home in Weissport.

Pud was a handyman and could fix or repair anything.

A hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Mauch Chunk Rod & Gun Club.

He liked to go out dancing and would bring along a CD of his favorite songs for the DJs.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Sheryl Melber Singleton and her husband, Walter, Sonya Ferrar and her husband, Chris, all of Denver, CO, and Doreen Briesemeister of Walnutport; sister, Adelle Kuhla; brothers, James H. Melber and Harry K. Melber and his wife, Shelley, all of Jim Thorpe; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Lisa Yackanicz and her husband, Keith Boner; stepson, Brian Yackanicz; three stepgrandchildren, and one stepgreat-granddaughter.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Ryan; sisters, Margaret Hartman, Natalie Mayor and Ralene Bevich; and brothers, Glenn Melber and Edward F. Melber.

Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 26, Edward F. Melber Funeral Home, 524 Center St., Jim Thorpe, with the Rev. John P. Hassler officiating. Interment with military honors, Evergreen Cemetery, Jim Thorpe. Viewing 9:30-11 a.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be sent to the church, 611 North St., Jim Thorpe, PA 18229.
