Patrick Brogan Obituary

Patrick M. Brogan

Patrick M. Brogan, 67, a resident of Summit Hill, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 31, 2024.

Born in Allentown, on March 4, 1957, Pat lived a life full of adventures, stories, and love. Pat spent his early childhood in Allentown before his family moved to Richardson, TX, where he developed a lifelong passion for the Dallas Cowboys and a corresponding disdain for the Philadelphia Eagles. The family later relocated to Slatington, where Pat graduated from Northern Lehigh High School in 1975.

Over his varied career, Pat worked in insurance, sales, slate mining, slate roof installation, paver installation, and as a warehouse forklift operator, retiring in Jan. 2024. Pat had a knack for making any job interesting and was known for his strong work ethic.

In recent years, Pat and his former spouse, Joanne Ogozalek, rekindled their love (married 1982-1992) and currently lived together in Summit Hill. Pat thoroughly enjoyed the serene country setting and the abundance of wildlife. He developed a passion for wood splitting and sold firewood to weekend campers heading to Mauch Chunk Lake State Park.

Pat was known for his larger-than-life personality. He was quick to laugh, tease, joke, and bring others along for the ride. He was famous in family circles for his rousing renditions of "Mack the Knife" at family weddings.

Despite recent health battles, his spirit remained undiminished, and he continually planned for the future. He loved playing horseshoes, cornhole, and fishing, often found between the pine trees on the Lehigh River, casting for trout with a rainbow KastMaster.

He enjoyed his backyard "concerts" with loud music, a fire, and a cold Coors Light in hand, Pat spent countless summers in Seattle, working alongside his late brother Tim installing slate roofs. After long days of labor, they would return to Tim's home by the Pilchuck River, where they would relax and unwind.

The two brothers shared many evenings sitting out back with Tim's dog, Greendog, who Pat loved dearly. This serene setting was their sanctuary, where they would fish for steelhead, even though the official fishing season was only once a year. These cherished moments were a testament to their bond and the simple joys they found in each other's company.

One of Pat's favorite vacation spots was Myrtle Beach, SC. Known as the "Pier Patrol," he was the first one out every morning to set up everybody's chairs on the beach. On vacation, he would often "turn it up a notch" as a continuous source of entertainment, with his nieces, nephews, brothers, and sisters cheering him on. These moments were a witness to Pat's ability to bring joy and excitement to any gathering, creating unforgettable memories for everyone involved.

Everyone who knew Pat was aware of his sleepwalking escapades. On one memorable night in South Carolina, he was found wearing Joanne's bathing suit with the mess of his attempt to make a pot coffee splattered all around the kitchen.

Pat's partner in crime was his dog, Stella. Stella was more than just a pet; she was Pat's confidante, his constant companion, and his source of unwavering loyalty whose presence brought immense joy and comfort to him. Pat had a deep love for every member of his family that brought out the best in him.

Pat was truly one of a kind, a man whose presence will forever bring a smile and warm memories to those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

His unique spirit, stories, and zest for life will be terribly missed.

Pat's survivors include his children, Patrick Jr. of Morgan, CA, Brittany Kelley of Slatington, Michael of Summit Hill, and Palma of Schuylkill Haven; his ten grandchildren, Angel, Aiden, Josh, Hudson, Caden, Dominic, Kylie, Lucas, Logan, and Jacob and his siblings, Rick Brogan, Mike Brogan, Shannon de Wit, Linda Snyder, and Cathy Schaffer.

He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Shauna, and his younger brother, Timothy C. Brogan.

Service: Memorial service to celebrate Pat's life will be held at noon Thursday, Aug. 8, from the Parambo Funeral Home, 54 W. Fell St., Summit Hill, with the Rev. Robert George officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Call 10:30 a.m.-noon Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family. I 2nd my husband Eriks comment, we had such great nights together at the Shack. My favorite memory, which I often spoke about when your name would come up in conversation, is how you were the only one person who did not bully me into not playing slow country music, like our beloved Brooks and Dunn song 'Believe". In fact,
you would also join in, you and I, screaming at the tops of our lungs!! A song not many even know, and very few loved like you and I did. A song so fitting for you now my friend. I really enjoyed our times together, you were one of the greats!!!
