Stewart Miller Obituary

Stewart E. Miller

Stewart E. Miller, of Lehighton, PA, passed away on the morning of March 21, 2024. He was 70 years old.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Miller of Belmont, MA, son Norman DeRemer and family of Allentown, PA, and his loving companion of nine years, Marsha Vaclavik of Lehighton, PA.

A lifelong railroader, working for many outfits in the Northeastern part of the country, his reputation preceded him wherever he went. Many would say Stew seemed like the meanest man they'd ever met, but it never took long for that initial impression to fall away. His many friends and colleagues remember him as a funny, generous, and reserved man, with an encyclopedic knowledge of the rail system and a love for good books, as a keen observer of the sky and weather, and as a talented artist making HO scale layouts and equipment.

Additionally, he was a dedicated member of the Lehigh Valley Veterans Association, often paying for the dues of other members and the annual door prizes, and not accepting reimbursement. There will be no formal service, the family requests you remember Stew in your own way, preferably by gently annoying a small cat or dog, or admiring a good thunderstorm.

Schaeffer Funeral Home, Lehighton, has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.schaefferfunerals.com.
