Mrs. Violet "Vi" Greenstreet Charles, 89, of San Mateo, Calif., passed away Oct. 4, 2013.
Born in Balti-more, Md., she was the only daugh-ter of the late Wesley and Irene Greenstreet; loving wife to the late William "Bill" Charles; and sister to the late Everett Greenstreet (Gloria) and her loving sister-in-law Blodwyn "Sis" Mengel (John).
Family was her nucleus and she treasured the time when all of them would be together. She loved all of her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, both local and distant, and kept in touch with them over the phone, cards, internet or during her visits.
She was a devoted Christian Scientist (CS) and worked in the CS reading room and church nursery for many years. She loved to china paint and was one credit away from a Bachelor's Degree at San Mateo College at the age of 86.
She prided herself in her immaculate home and welcomed anyone who entered through the doors.
Vi and her husband, Bill, married for over 62 years, were world travelers and, when possible, she would take time to be near the ocean. She loved the sound of the waves and enjoyed the smell of the ocean breeze, whether it was in Rehoboth Beach, Del., Bermuda, Greece or Half Moon Bay, Calif.
She is survived by her younger brother, Riston Greenstreet (Helen), and her three children, Sharon Charles, Lynn Glanden (Garey) and William "Bill" Charles (Jody), and multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Service: Memorial service at Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown (Route 54), on Saturday, June 30, at noon.
