William Fister Obituary

William J. "Bill" Fister, 83, of Slatington, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 22, in the Phoebe Home, Allentown. He was the husband of the late Marie H. Fister.
He graduated from Temple University, Philadelphia, with an associates degree and worked for the Trojan Powder Co., S. Whitehall Twp., for 40 years before retiring.
Born in New Tripoli, he was a son of the late Edwin J. and Margaret (Howerter) Fister.
He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Slatington, where he was formerly a greeter, deacon, consistory member and a volunteer for the church Peach Festival.
Fister served on the Slatington Borough Council for two terms and was chairman of the Human Community Services Committee.
He was a life member of the Ontelaunee Rod and Gun Club; a charter member of Grundsau Lodge No. 18, Emerald; and a member of the Allen O. Delke American Legion Post 16, Slatington.
The deceased was a corporal in the Army during World War II.
Surviving are three sons, William "Bill" Jr., and his wife, Diane C., of Slatington, David L. of Allentown and Michael J., and his wife, Barbara J., of Catasauqua; two sisters, Elanor Snyder and Alma, wife of Kenneth Koch of New Tripoli; a sister-in-law, Betty Fister of Topton; five grandchildren, Kevin W., Ryan J., Emily D., Sarah E. and Patricia M. Fister; and nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by three brothers, Paul, Ralph and George.
Service: Funeral service 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second St., Slatington. Contributions in his name may be made to the General Fund of the church, c/o the funeral home, 18080.
