A. Asendorf Obituary

ASENDORF A. William "Bill" aka "Painterman" A. William Asendorf, "Bill", age 65, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away Monday, April 21, 2008, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Bill was born on December 3, 1942, in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, to Rev. Albert S. and Ruth (Cavanaugh) Asendorf. He was a graduate of Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania and was Director of Admissions at that same institution. He then did work in Human Resources for Owens Corning Fiberglas in Anderson, South Carolina and Toledo, Ohio. After leaving Owens Corning, he continued work in Human Resources for Rudolph Libbe, Inc., S & R Equipment and Hickory Farms in the greater Toledo area and Robinair in Montpelier, Ohio. Continuing as a consultant in the HR field, he worked with people who were displaced from their jobs and helped them find other employment in the same area where they lived. He made many friends along the way who he stayed in touch with for many years. He then became self-employed with his painting business, known by many as "Painterman". He treated all of the homes, businesses and churches as if they were his own. Bill was a perfectionist in his painting with great attention to detail. His workers, many of them young, took on his attention to detail and looked at each job as a beautiful creation from start to finish. He often said "what better ceiling could you have for your office than the sky". Bill was a master gardener and some of his volunteer work is evident in the trees and shrubs planted at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He also had a candid connection with the elderly, helping them with repair on their homes and taking meals to the shut-ins of his church. His special connection with children and young adults was evident with the many drawings that were sent to him during his illness. Bill was one of the kindest and most compassionate people anyone could have ever known. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. Bill was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Maumee, Ohio. Surviving is his loving wife of 31 years, Joanie (McCrackin) Asendorf; daughter, Robyn (Chris) Ward of Cumming, Georgia and twin grandsons, Ben and Ryan; brother, Donald (Betty) Asendorf of State College, Pennsylvania; sister, Betty Patton of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and sister-in-law, Barbara (Terry) Boyce of Glenview, Illinois. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog and cat, Cooper and Emily. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, Gilbert Patton. Friends may call at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant, St., Maumee, Ohio, on Friday, May 16, 2008, from 3-7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 310 Elizabeth St., Maumee, Ohio, on Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. J. Paul Board, III officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, The American Cancer Society, Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the charity of the donor's choice.

I was just in Spruce Creek where I am rebuilding a family cabin and learned of Ace's death. Ace's parents and mine were ministers and friends. I met Ace at Camp Kanesatake many years ago. I kept up with him a bit via Alex Day. Ironically our paths were similar though never crossed (hospice volunteers, working with the elderly, college administration). My sympathy goes out to the family.

Bill and I worked together at Juniata College many years ago. He was always kind and helpful. My sincere sympathy is extended to his family.

Bill was a friend from Camp Kenasatake days. I always enjoyed his company and am so glad he was such a success in life. My nephew went to Juniata College, and told me that he met a man who knew me. I didn't connect the dots to "Ace".
He was a great guy!

Joanie and Robyn-I am so sorry about the death of William, husband and father. He was such a wonderful man and I enjoyed working for your family. He always treated me as if I was a member of your family. My prayers are with you and what we have lost, the Heavens have gained. My love and hope are with all of you in this time of loss.

Please accept my sympathy on the loss of Bill. He was a wonderful guy. We went to High School together in State College. He was one year behind me but there was a time when we were best buddies.
