MURRAY

Alvin "Al" Lewis

Alvin "Al" Lewis Murray, 76, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 12, 2014, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility in Hillsdale, Michigan. Born on June 9, 1937, to Paul Alvin and Kathryn Mae (Parrish) Murray in Toledo, Ohio, Al was a resident of Haskins, Ohio for 48 years.

In his early twenties, Al was a scuba diver and instructor. He was a brown belt in Tae Kwon Do and was active in Amateur Radio with the call sign WB8ABY. During his time with the radio club he was elected president twice. Al also enjoyed performing magic during special events.

Al had a busy professional and civic life. He served in the US Army from 1960-1962 and was stationed at Fort Knox. He worked for Libbey Owens Ford for 511/2 years and was active with the Steelworkers Local 9, where he took on the following roles: committee man, grievance man, chairman and executive board member for over 30 years. Al was elected to the Haskins City Council where he also served as President.

Al was a member of the Middleton Township Fire Department for 37 years and was the Fire Chief for 18 years. He also served with the township EMS. Al was heavily involved with the North West Ohio Arson Task Force, serving with the Wood County Sheriff's Fire Investigation Unit. He was also a member of the International Organization of Arson Investigators and had earned the title of Certified Fire Investigator.

Although Al had many professional and civic accomplishments, he was most proud and committed to his role as father and grandfather. Mr. Murray is survived by his son, Alvin (Kim) Murray II; his daughter, Pamela (John) Barnhart; 11 grandchildren; 3 great- grandchildren, and his brother, David Murray. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Kellie Murray.
