Anita Castañeda  Obituary

Anita H. Castañeda

Anita H. Castañeda, 86, passed away on June 5, 2024, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on August 3, 1937, to Isabelle (Rodriguez) and Augustine Plasencio. Anita graduated from Morrison R. Waite High School. She dedicated her professional life as a secretary at Community Insurance, where her warmth and efficiency made her an invaluable asset.

Anita was a devout Catholic and faithful member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, whose life was guided by her strong spiritual beliefs.

Anita had a zest for life and a curious spirit. She had an insatiable love for reading, always eager to explore new worlds through the pages of a book. She loved being in her kitchen, where she delighted in experimenting with new recipes and flavors.

Anita had a passion for music and dancing, often lighting up the dance floor with her infectious energy and smile. Game shows were a favorite pastime, where her quick wit and competitive spirit shone through and occasionally, she enjoyed trips to the casinos.

An avid shopper with an eye for detail, Anita took pride in her meticulous approach to cleaning and organizing. Her dedication extended to her work as an Avon sales lady, where she built relationships with her clients and shared her love for beauty products.

A talented pianist with a love for classical music, Anita found joy in playing the piano and sharing her gift with others. Bowling nights were a cherished tradition, where she laughed and cheered alongside her friends and family.

Anita's marriage to her beloved husband Carlos, on July 13, 1963, was a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. As a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, her love knew no bounds. Her family was the center of her universe, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Anita is survived by her children, Charles (Lourdes) Castañeda, Roseann (John) Ruskinoff, Linda (Christopher) McCabe, Edward (Amy) Castañeda; grandchildren, Matthew, Stephanie, Adam, Maria, and Maya; great grandchildren, Maddie, and Noah; siblings, Robert (Vera) Plasencio, Carmelita Duran, Mary Rose (Tony) Silva, Dolores Tramill, Richard Plasencio, Loretta Alonzo; beloved dog, Teddy. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Carlos Castañeda; siblings, Rita Dickson, Michael Plasencio, and Veronica Villarreal.

Friends will be received at Walker Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Ave, Oregon, Ohio on Friday, June 7, 2024, from 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday at St. Thomas of Aquanis, 729 White St, Toledo, Ohio 43605 from 9:30 a.m.-1030 a.m. with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Memorial donations in Anita's name may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or to the American Cancer Society. A special thank you to the care team at St. Charles, Majestic, and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the love and care given to Anita.
