Anthony Geraci Obituary

Anthony R. Geraci M.D.

Anthony R. Geraci, M.D., passed away on September 17, 2025, at the age of 89. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA, where he received his Pharmacy and Medical Degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. Anthony's academic memberships include Kappa Phi Fraternity and Rho Chi Honorary Fraternity. Awards that he received were the Brubaker Scholarship in Pharmacy, the Latimore Award and Senatorial Scholarship in Medicine.

In the armed services, he was a second lieutenant in the Medical Service Corp, and later a reservist in the United States Army.

Dr. Geraci was the first fellowship trained cardiologist/angiographer in Toledo after receiving his advanced training at the University of New York In Buffalo.

He was board certified in both Internal Medicine and Cardiology. The first Balloon Aortic Valvuloplasty was performed at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, by Anthony.

During his practice years, he served as Heart Station Director of both St. Vincent and St. Luke's Hospital. In addition, he was the Cardio Catheterization Laboratory Director at St. Vincent Mercy Center.

Additionally, he was an executive committee member of both the Toledo Hospital and St. Vincent Medical Center. Early in his medical career he served as assistant clinical professor of medicine at the Medical College of Ohio. Professional memberships include the Academy of Medicine of Toledo and Lucas County where he served on various committees, Ohio State Medical Association, and The American Medical Association.

Academic curiosity was his lifelong pursuit. Dr. Geraci authored and co-authored eleven medical articles which were published worldwide. His children even saved the postage stamps from the countries where physicians had requested reprints.

Dr. Geraci had a fellowship in the American College of Physicians; American College of Chest Physicians, and the Society of Cardio Angiography and Intervention.

Dr. Geraci enjoyed multiple hobbies which include, clock and barometer restoration/building, piano playing, and beer brewing. He was an excellent carpenter and handyman which served the household well during his lifetime. He remodeled the basement for his family and worked on car motors before diagnostics. In the early days of computers, he built, repaired, and serviced the home computers. Later in retirement he made beautiful wood, acrylic, marble, and bone pens, gifting many to family and friends.

Throughout his life he displayed a quick wit. Derivation of words was also a hobby, and due to his Latin-language background, enabled him to provide meanings and spelling without dictionary assistance. Upon retirement he and his wife, Carolyn, lived in Florida, and returned to Toledo for their remaining years. Dr. Geraci was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn. Dr. Geraci is survived by his son, Grant; daughter, Gwen; son-in-law, Larry Hart; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Halgas.

Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., at Christ the King Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, Ohio, followed by a 10:30 a.m. funeral mass on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
