Barbara Scribner Obituary

SCRIBNER Barbara A. Barbara Ann Scribner, 87, passed away on April 28, 2009, in Naples, FL with her family at her side. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on September l7, l921, to Eleanor and Fredrick Sproul. Prior to her retirement in 1989 she was employed at Toledo Scale and Champion Spark Plug. She was a counselor for the deaf and hard of hearing teenagers. She was an auxiliary member of the Sunset House. She was also a member of Toledo Scale retirement Association. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Robert and brother, James Ferren. She will be so very missed by her children, Lynda (Gordon) Mefford, Robert (Toni) Scribner, grandsons, Gordon Mefford Jr., David Mefford, and Michael (Chris) Mefford; great-grandchildren, Sarah (Jared) Schomaker, Stephanie, Haley and Nicholas Mefford; nieces, nephews, and many friends. Mom's passion, besides her family, was a love of flying. She obtained her private pilot's license and was also a licensed acrobatic flyer. She was an accomplished artist, loved playing piano, especially jazz, an avid reader, and enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing scrabble. She loved her dog, Happy and her bird, Tweety. Visiting hours are from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with service at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2009, in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105.

My deepest sympathies. I enjoyed working with Barb back in the 1980's at Champion. Besides being a sweet person, she was a great artist and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was fun to be around.
