Bernard Welter Obituary
07/16/1936 - 01/25/2024
Bernard Thomas "Tom" Welter, age 87, of Waterville, Ohio, formerly of Sylvania, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 25, 2024. Tom was born in Toledo, OH, to Clarence and Agnes (Seren) Welter. He graduated from Macomber High School in 1954, and served in the US Army as a tank commander patrolling the Germany/Czechoslovakia border. Tom was a control operator at Toledo Edison for 35 years, retiring in 1991.
Tom married Barbara M. Crayne in 1958, and they had 3 children. He met his wife, Sharon, in 1984 at Emmanuel Baptist Church and were married in 1985. They were long time members of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Tom enjoyed golfing, fishing, woodworking and time spent with his grandchildren. In his later years, Alzheimer's took many of his memories, but his kind heart and sense of humor remained. He was a loving husband, wonderful father and grandfather. Tom will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Surviving is his loving wife, Sharon; children, Patricia Welter, MD, John (Donna) Welter, and Daniel (Whitney) Welter; stepchildren, Rick (Bridget Quinn) Orr, and Randy Orr; grandchildren, Michael Welter, Andrew (Kelsey) Welter, Aaron Welter, Alissa Welter, Christopher (Samantha) Welter, Lucas Orr, Zuzu Orr, Christopher (Erica) Collins, Elisabeth Orr, and Emerson Orr; great-grandchildren, Nolan Welter, Cooper Collins, Bailey Welter, and Maisy Welter. Also surviving are his brother in-law, Thomas Shinaver; sister in-law, Beth Welter, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his stepmother, Sophie; mother of his children, Barbara (Welter) Adams; brother, Paul Welter; sisters, Mary Jean Logsdon, Sharon Shinaver; brother in-law, Terry Logsdon; and nephew, Thomas Shinaver Jr.
Family and friends will be received at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 4207 Laskey Road, Toledo on Friday February 2, 2024, from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Services for Tom will begin at 11:00 a.m. immediately after the visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
