Carl Layman Obituary

LAYMAN

Carl John Jr.

Carl John Layman Jr. passed away at the age of 99, on November 16, 2012, in his Maumee home. He was born in Toledo, OH on September 25, 1913, to Kathryn Anna and Carl John Layman, Sr. He was the eldest of four children, preceded in death by brother Farrell and sister Gertrude (Trudy). Carl married the love of his life, Myrtle Grace Laipply on June 24, 1939. He and his wife built a lovely home in Maumee OH. They raised two children, Patricia Ann Shible and John Wayne Layman. He is the proud grandfather to 10, great-grandfather to 11, and great-great-grandfather to 5.

Carl began his career in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), Company 532, Warners Camp. After that, he worked at Autolite, which became Prestolite, as a tool and die set-up man for 40 years.

Carl was an avid gardener, who supplied home grown vegetables to his extensive family for many years. He and his beautiful wife also enjoyed western square dancing with the Swing Fevers, Rhythm Ramblers, and Buckeye Squares. However, Carl's favorite pastime was being a handyman. He loved assisting his children and grandchildren with many household improvement projects. He spent hours fixing any mechanical device that was broken ranging from automobiles to sewing machines.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Myrtle Grace Layman; children, John Wayne, Patricia Ann; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; brother, Richard, and extended family.

The family is celebrating his life on November 23, 2012, 3:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. at the Maumee Senior Center, 2430 S. Detroit Ave. Maumee, Ohio. Please feel free to join us in this celebration.
