Carl Nida Obituary

Carl "Sonny", Vernon Nida

10/12/1948 - 12/6/2023

Carl "Sonny" Vernon Nida passed away on December 6, 2023, in Maumee, OH. He was born in Charleston, WV, on October 12, 1948, son to Jessie Jean Smith and Carl Nida.

Those in Toledo may remember Carl as the longtime owner of Dairy Queen on West Alexis. Whether you were a customer, or lucky enough to be his friend or family, all would agree that Carl was the kindest person you could ever meet. A true believer in "you catch more bees with honey than you do with salt", his soul was as sweet as one can be. Carl was a history buff with a love of the outdoors, animals, live music, college football (Go Blue!), road trips, margaritas with beef enchiladas, and his family. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who was grateful every day for God's goodness. With a sense of humor unmatched by most, Carl brought laughter to every room he entered. Most of all Carl loved his children, along with their spouses and his grandchildren. Words fail to convey the love and gratitude held by those he left behind. Carl embodied selflessness to the fullest degree and displayed unconditional love in a way rarely seen in this world. Whether conversing with his children as adults or playing with them as children, he was never in a hurry or distracted by the demands of life. He put aside all cares and concerns for as long as was needed and fully embraced the privilege of fatherhood. His advice and companionship were coveted by his children and his absence leaves behind a void that will never be filled. He was more than a Dad, he was a best friend. While heartbroken, his family finds comfort in his relationship with God and his love and faith in Jesus Christ. They also find comfort knowing that he is reunited with his beloved mother, Jessie, a reunion he was eager to have. His departure is not a "goodbye" but a "see you later".

He leaves behind his daughter, Katie (Dominic), son Jessie (Sara); stepdaughter, Bianca; and his grandchildren, Marilyn, Teddy, Micaiah, Leah, Ezekiel, Isaiah and RaeLynn. He also leaves behind his brother, Terry (Loretta); nephew, Shawn; and special friends, Jana Huepenbecker and Jon Poulos.

A celebration of life will held in Middleburg, FL in 2024.
