Catherine Scobie Obituary

SCOBIE Catherine Billis Catherine Billis Scobie, 84, was called to Heaven Wednesday, September 10, 2008, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born on May 20, 1924, in Sterling, Colorado, Phillip and Eugenia Appelhans. During World War II, Catherine was proud to do her part by riveting wings on fighter aircraft at Willys - Overland. She also enjoyed assisting family friends at the former New York Central Restaurant. Catherine loved spending time with her grandchildren. She wintered for many years in Florida at Lake Okeechobee. She enjoyed the out of doors, gardening, fishing on the lake, raising farm animals, and traveling. Catherine was married to Andrew Billis, who preceded in her in death after 27 years. Several years later, she met and married James Scobie. Jim passed away after 14 years with Catherine. Her life reflects that of a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. Catherine leaves to cherish her memory, her son, John Billis (Jan); daughter, Patricia Sahadi (Ted); son, Robert Billis (Viki); eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Mary Liebherr, Pauline Wetzel, Shirley Davenport, and her faithful K-9 companion, Mandy who accompanied her everywhere. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph Appelhans, Andrew, John, Jacob (Mary), Carl (Marilyn), Peter (Marsha), Martin, and sister, Barbara Szajkowski. Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania, OH, Friday, September 12th from 3 - 9 p.m., where Scripture Services will begin at 3:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be conducted at the Little Flower Catholic Church Saturday at 10:30 a.m., where her body will lie in state one-hour prior. Those wishing to give memorials are asked to consider the Little Flower Catholic Church, 5522 Dorr St., Toledo, OH. Catherine's family wishes to thank the staff of the Gorelich Center, for all their loving care, and support given Mom during her stay at the facility.
