Chad Magrum Obituary

Chad Matthew Magrum

Chad Matthew Magrum, 53, of Oak Harbor, passed away peacefully at home February 12, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 8, 1967 at Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton, OH a son to the late Howard I. and Shirley J. (Bennett) Magrum.

After high school, Chad studied at the University of Toledo, Owens Community College, the police academy at Terra State Community College, and The Medical University of Ohio. He attended his first EMT class in 1986 through Vanguard Career Center, setting the scene for his life of community service.

Dedicating much of his life to helping others, Chad served his community in many ways. He worked for several years as a peace officer in the Corrections Division of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Chad also served in the patrol and communications divisions of the Oak Harbor Police Department. He became a firefighter and was a member of the Portage Fire District for 12 years. Chad also worked to train future paramedics through Owens Community College and provided a combined total of over 45 years of service.

Chad will be remembered for his service, sense of humor, larger than life personality, collector of EVERYTHING, and his love for community and for his family, both blood and brothers and sisters in service, most notably his love for his wife and best friend, Jenny whom he married July 30, 1993.

Chad is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jennifer; father and mother-in-law Jim and Judy Gschwind; siblings, Cindy (Tom) Anderson, Charlie (Darla) Magrum, Cathy (Leroy) Hall, Curt Magrum, Cecile (Al) Graening and Carol (Mike) Barr, Julie (John) Pratt, and Joe Gschwind; 16 nieces and nephews; 31 great-nieces and nephews; 8 aunts and uncles; 18 brothers and sisters on the EMS and his cat Gizmo. Jennifer, Judy and Jim and Family,
I did not know Chad but, with reading his obituary, found his love of helping others reminded me of my father and also Judy's Dad (Luther).
Chad's accomplishments and his Love of Life must have made a tremendous mark upon Ottawa County and the entire state. Please accept my thoughts and prayers at this time of loss. Bill Blessing Jr
