I have wonderful memories of travelling with Todd and all of the Kurfess family to all kinds of cool places in my youth. Mr. Kurfess was a man of principal and drive that I looked up to then and always as a result of those early experiences. My sympathies to Mrs. Kurfess and all of the family. Mr. Kurfess was a wonderful man.

After completing graduate school, I had the honor of working for Mr. Kurfess as a legislative fellow in 1977-78. The experience was transformative for me. Mr. Kurfess was the model of an outstanding public servant. He was highly intelligent, intellectually curious, extremely hard working, and profoundly ethical. He was a "big picture" thinker who was always open to finding new, creative legislative solutions. He always pushed me and others on staff to do more and to do it better. From him, I learned values that continue to guide me today.

I am grateful to Charles Kurfess for giving me the opportunity to practice law with him after I graduated from law school. Later we served together on the Wood County Common Pleas Court. He was always a dedicated public servant and a compassionate Judge. He will be greatly missed.
