Charlotte Bowlus Obituary

Charlotte Bowlus

Charlotte Bowlus, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, advocate for children and neighbor passed away peacefully on November 26, 2023 at the age of 92. She was born on October 8, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio to Charles and Eleanor Schaub. Charlotte was a 1949 graduate of Woodward High School.

She went on to work for Lucas County Child Services as a caseworker for over 30 years due to her love for children. Nothing made her happier than to attend a successful adoption hearing placing a child in their new permanent, loving home. Charlotte had a wealth of knowledge regarding services and programs available to children and families she served. She was a member of the Citizens Review Board, volunteered at the YWCA Battered Women's Shelter, Red Cross, taught Sunday and Vacation Bible School, served on church council, volunteered at Wildwood Metro Park and at the Women Blessing Women program through Catholic Charities. In 2001, she received the Award of Excellence through the Juvenile Court Systems Citizens Review Board and in 2001/02 she received the Woman of Achievement Award.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert Frosch in 1968. She remarried to Eugene Bowlus for 39 years until his passing in 2008. Her loving memories will be cherished by her son, Douglas Frosch (Bonnie); daughter, Shari Gorski (Jim); and stepchildren, Mike Bowlus (Susan), Greg Bowlus and Doreen Dunn.

A heartfelt appreciation to Fran Oliver for her friendship and loving care to Charlotte as well as Nurse Carrie, Angela, Roshonda, Giselle, Raven, Raniyah, Dawn, LaToya and Cindy. Also sincere thanks to Nurse Sean and Nurse Nicole and caregiver Anthony from Ohio Living Home Health and Hospice.

Church services will be held at Faith United Lutheran Church, 4543 Douglas Road, Toledo, Ohio at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2nd, with interment to follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. A memorial luncheon will be held at the church at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 3rd.

Char was an incredible person, living an unselfish life of dedicating it to her family and the family of God. Her work for Lucas County Child Services and volunteerism for so many organizations shows the love she has for others way above herself. As Jesus told his disciples in Matt 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. I am confident she is now resting in the presense of Jesus Christ, our savior and perfecter of our faith. We shall see you again! Rest well in your permanent home that Jesus has prepared for you!

Dear Shari, Jim and Doug,
I am so sorry for your loss. Your homage to your mother is just beautiful; it truly reveals the wonderful and caring person she was. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. And Shari, find comfort in knowing that there is no greater legacy to honor your mother than being such a caring and protective daughter.

love,
Dave
