Cora Sweetman Obituary

Cora F. Sweetman

Cora F. Sweetman, age 83, went home to be with the Lord on December 15, 2017, at the Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania, Ohio. Cora was born to James and Ellen Sevier on August 11, 1934, in Corbin, Kentucky. She was a cheerleader at Lynn Camp High School in Corbin.

On Christmas Eve, 1955, Cora married Billy Jean Ridener. Cora and Billy were married until his death in 1976. Although they moved north to Toledo to work in the auto industry, Cora's heart was always in Kentucky. She and her family cherished many trips back home to see her friends and extended family. Visiting Cumberland Falls and class reunions were some of her favorites. You could always find Cora cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats. March Madness will never be the same, without her yelling "don't let 'em shoot".

Cora married Francis Sweetman in 1981. They enjoyed a long retirement and traveling together, including trips to the Holy Land, spending winters in Florida, and several bus trips with their church family.

Cora was a longtime member of Calvary Bible Chapel, where she served in numerous ministries over the years. Cora could often be heard singing praises in the choir, helping with Vacation Bible School, meeting with the Ladies Prayer Group, and in many other ways. She always had a smile, hug and encouraging word for everyone she met; all loved her sass and sense of humor. She shared her home and her heart with many people in need.

Cora will be greatly missed by her children, Mike (Paula) Ridener, Paul (Amy) Ridener, and Tracy (Matt) Smart; grandchildren, Dustin (Cara) Ridener, Erin (Tom) Goodreau, Derek (Jason Bogiel) Ridener, and Maggie (David Stranyak) Ridener, Will, Abby and Corbin Ridener, Jorey, Jaret and Taryn Smart; great-grandchildren, Sam and Patrick Ridener, and Easton and Ellie Goodreau; sisters, Pat (Don) Stewart and Maxine Wells; and many extended family members and friends.

Cora was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Billy; second husband, Frank; and brothers, R.L., Hubert, and Ross.

The family would like to thank caregiver, Stephanie Redmond, for helping Mom be comfortable in her own home for the past several months.

Visitors will be received Wednesday, December 20 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Ansberg West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, Ohio, where a service will be held Thursday, December 21 at 11:00 a.m. Cora's dear friends, Pastor Andy Hill and Pastor Kelly Miller, will officiate. Interment will be private. Condolences for Cora's family may be expressed online at www.ansberg-west.com.

Cora loved her mountain heritage, children and reading. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to consider making a contribution to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, a charity based in Sevier County, Tennessee, dedicated to providing books to young children: https://imaginationlibrary.com/.
