Craig Hawkins Obituary

HAWKINS

Craig R.

Craig Redington Hawkins passed away on July 12, 2014, at his home in Las Vegas. He recently celebrated his 65th birthday. He had suffered for many years from COPD and congestive heart failure. Craig was born on July 5, 1949, in Toledo, Ohio and graduated from Roy C. Start High School.

He was an eccentric character known for dispensing homespun wisdoms like "trust is so hard to gain and so easy to lose" and "you can go too far one way as you can go the other." He also remembered the birth date of everyone he met and started each morning reciting the day's birthdays, among his many friends and family members. He could mentally calculate what day of the week a person was born on, could recite the names of the U.S. Presidents in order, and thought the novel "1984", had a title that was "30 years too early."

Craig is joining his father, Richard; his sister, Sharon and his daughter, Elizabeth, in the afterlife. He is survived by Jeanette, his wife of 40 years; his mother, Jeanne; daughter, Genevieve; son, Andrew; granddaughters, Jasmine and Elizabeth; brother, Scott and sister, Laraine.

Friends are invited to visit from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 West Sylvania Avenue, (between Secor and Douglas Roads). Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 21, in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.

It's been many years since I had contact with the Hawkins family, but all were and are beautiful and wonderful people. Knew Sharon most of all but also knew the entire family when they all lived on Homewood in West Toledo, 3831 to be exact..
Sympathy to the entire family losing Craig and Sharon so close together has to be hard. Tell your mom, I said Hello........

I only knew Craig through his brother Scott, But he was always very kind. He had a mind like a steel trap when it came to important dates. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

My Brother Craig died a week after his 65th Birthday. All will be happy to know that his Daughter Genevieve arrived from Thailand on July 3rd just nine days before Craig died. Craig got to see his two Grandchildren, Jasmine age 7 and Elizabeth 18 months. Craig got to meet his son in law Surin, from Thailand. Everyone can at least thank God for that. Craig left no enemies on this earth and I am certain he was welcome into Heaven. I would invite one and all to sign the guest book and if you have anything to say about my Brother I know that it will be good because I cannot think of a bad thing he ever did, and that's saying something. I hope to see everyone at Craig's showing.
