Danny JOHNOFF Obituary

JOHNOFF Danny T. "Bananas" Danny T. "Bananas, Jackson, Yank" Johnoff, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, August 26, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Toledo on May 3, 1924 to Theodore and Frances (Kasperczyk) Johnoff. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes School, and then Holland High School until being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943. He spent the first ten years of his life in the Buckingham and Junction area of Toledo, up until the Great Depression forced his family to move to the Hill Avenue/ Holland - Sylvania area, the former Adams Township. There, he grew up next door to, and eventually married, his childhood sweetheart, Dorothy Mosiniak, on August 25, 1958, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He lived with her and raised his family for 53 years in the house they built together next door to his childhood home. Danny served honorably in the Army Air Corps during WWII, assigned to loading ordinance on B-17 bombers in England. After being discharged, he began work at Gerity-Schultz Corporation, where he labored for 42 years. Danny was a charter member and first president of Club 16, which he and his friends and family founded together. He loved fishing and duck hunting as a young man, and took many fly-in fishing trips in Northern Ontario with his family and good friends. He was a union steward with the UAW for Local 1064, where he fought for workers rights, fair wages, and safe working conditions. After his retirement, he spent many hours in his beloved garden, and loved to make soups, sauer- kraut, canned tomatoes, and apple pies with the fruits and vegetables he grew. He and his family worked hard to overcome early financial adversity, and through hard work and perseverance, they were all able to provide for their families. He loved his wife, daughter, and son, and was especially proud of his five grandchildren, and cherished being together with them, and loved celebrating life with his whole family. Danny was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents: his brothers, Leo, Joseph (Marilyn), James (Maryann); and sister, Dorothy (Frank) Johnston. He is survived by his daughter, Danielle (Anthony) Meola; son, Jeffery, and grandchildren, Anthony, Cameron, Daniel, William and Wyatt. He is also survived by his brothers, Theodore Johnoff and Frank (Joanne) Johnoff and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends by visit at the W.K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy., on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m., with a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2011 with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9:30 a.m., where family and friends will be received after 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Any donations can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, whose loving care will always be gratefully remembered by the family. Special thanks to Katie, Chrisanna, and Jamie, and the Visiting Angels, who were so kind and caring to our father in his home.

To the leader of our "gang". I don't think I'll ever know someone again who was so knowledgeable about nature and was very dedicated to preserving that nature. I will miss you Uncle Dan--Terribly! May you rest in peace with Aunt Teen and may God Bless you for your service to our country. Michael Mosiniak

Jeff, Dani,
I recall your Dad being a great conversationalist. If he a thought and opinion, we knew about it. He was one of a kind and a great man. I always enjoyed talking with him when visting your homestead. He was always welcoming to our visits, even in the late night. My life is enriched for having known him. I'm sure my Dad and your Dad are sharing a beer right now.

Jeff
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Ron sent me your Dad's obituary and he sounds like quite a guy. Just remember that he's in a better place and happy to be with your Mom.
