Darryl Barricklow Obituary

Darryl Barricklow

01/27/1947 - 08/30/2025

Darryl Dale Barricklow, age 78, passed away peacefully, Saturday, August 30, at his residence. He was born January 27, 1947, in Sylvania, OH, one of three sons of the late Ralph (Bub) and Lauretta Barricklow.

Darryl is survived and missed dearly by his loving wife, Suzanne, of 28 years; and his children, Chris (Angie), Jennifer (Steve), Jamie (Amy), and Jonathon (Katie); their mother, Diane Saunders; and stepdaughters, Lisa and Julie (Justin). He will be forever remembered and cherished by his grandchildren, Isabella, Joshua, Kayleigh, Alexandra, Austin, Olivia, Emma, Colton, Annabel, Tyler, Dylan; and great-grandson, Theodore.

He is also survived by his brothers, Kevin and Richard Barricklow; and his many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Darryl graduated from Sylvania High School and earned his degree from Bowling Green State University. He began his career as a United Auto Worker at Champion Spark Plug before shifting into environmental science where he applied his expertise as a hydrogeologist with EnecoTech Midwest Inc.

Darryl loved to travel and spend time with the people he loved. His favorite locations, Grand Marais, Michigan, and Puerta Vallarta, Mexico, were the backdrop to some of his most cherished moments. He never missed an opportunity to stretch out in the sun and drink a margarita with Suzanne or create new memories on the shores of Lake Superior with his family. He understood that wealth is measured not in possessions, but in the richness of his relationships with family and friends. His greatest joy was found in the laughter of his family and company of friends at something as simple as a backyard get together.

He took an active role in the life of his grandchildren by attending countless sporting events, plays, concerts, graduations, commissioning ceremonies, weddings, and the list goes on. Putting family above everything, his final road trip was to watch his granddaughter get married and to meet his great-grandson.

Darryl led by example to convey the definition of what family and friend means. His memory will live on through those who were lucky enough to know his dedication and selflessness. His smile, his sense of humor, and his kindness will not be forgotten.

A celebration of life to honor Darryl will be held Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m., at the Toledo Elks Lodge, at 3520 N. Holland Sylvania Road, Toledo, Ohio. We invite everyone to share a memory of Darryl during the open reflection time at 12:30 p.m.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center in lieu of flowers.

A chance meeting on Main Street in Sylvania as we strolled through out home town led to a long conversation about our respective families and friends in common. I've been happy to recall that encounter many times and have shared our story to Sylvanians at every opportunity. My deep condolences to the family
