Dino Mascotto Obituary

Dino A. Mascotto

Dino A. Mascotto, 85, of Toledo, OH passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Toledo Hospital surrounded by members of his loving family. Dino was born on October 25, 1932 in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Canada to Anthony and Laura (Bildo) Mascotto.

Dino is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eileen "Louise"; devoted children, Wendy Mascotto, Laurie (Tim) Feltus, Steven Mascotto and Kathy (Jeff) Ball; loving grandchildren, Jason Napolski, Christopher (Stephanie) Feltus, Jonathan Feltus, Jessica (Kyle) Never, Owen Ball, Kailey Doherty, Hannah Doherty, and Nathan Ball; great-grandchildren, Emma, Colton and Zoey; and brothers, Roy (Linda) Mascotto and Ron (Judi) Mascotto. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Mascotto and Laura (Bildo) Mascotto.

Dino was a loving father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. In life and on the ice, he was tough as nails, but he also had a tender and sweet side. He was a hardworking man with an infectious smile and great sense of humor. Dino was a professional hockey player whose career spanned over 20 years. His career began in Canada and ended in Toledo playing for the Toledo Blades and Hornets where he was a respected defenseman and fan favorite known to drop his gloves to protect his teammates and entertain his fans. Dino wore his signature red handkerchief at his hip that he would wave when he made a good play or wanted to take on an opposing player. His accomplishments included: Penticton V's Allan Cup Winners 1953-1954, World Hockey Champions in 1955, inductee to the British Columbia Hockey Hall of Fame, and most recently a candidate for the Toledo Hockey Hall of Fame. He was a skilled Journeyman millwright who retired from Pre Finish Metals in Walbridge Ohio. His passions included golfing, hunting, fishing, the outdoors, gardening, birdwatching and woodworking. He was the type of man who could build or fix anything, and was always there to help family or friends with a household project.

A Celebration of Dino's Life will take place at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue on Thursday, December 28, 2017. Visitation will take place from 4–7:00 p.m. with a service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Tributes in Dino's memory may be sent to the Walleye Wishing Well Fund at 406 Washington Street, Toledo, Ohio 43604 or Metroparks Toledo at 5100 West Central Avenue, Toledo, OH 43615.

Every time I went to my friend Wendy Mascotto s house, throughout our 36 year friendship, her father showed that smile that she mentioned in this obituary. He made me feel welcome to be in his home.

I am deeply saddened to hear that he has passed. He was loved by his family and know they will greave at the loss of him. My sincerest condolences to my dear friend Wendy Mascotto, the entire Mascotto family and to those who knew him well.

I loved Dino. He was always so sweet and kind to us rink rats.
Dino showed me how to pour a beer from a keg at a fan club party and that skill served me well later in life! So that was my job the rest of the night, keeping their glasses filled.... Jabo, Rammer... Johnny Gravel...
I had such a crush on him then when I was a little girl. I pulled on his hankie and he threatened to spank me! Never did that again.
My sincere condolences go out to his family and friends.
He will be missed. I'm very sorry for your loss.
