Dominic LANDOWSKI Obituary

LANDOWSKI Dominic A. Dominic A. Landowski, 95, ended his earthly journey and entered eternal life Thursday, August 12, 2010 while a resident at Clare Bridge of Monroe where he lived for the past two years. He was born to Antoinette (Czerniak) and Bernard Landowski October 29, 1914. He graduated from St. Stanislaus School in Toledo and from St. Bonaventure High School and Minor Seminary, Sturtevant, Wisconsin, in 1935, his education having been interrupted by his time boxing in the Golden Gloves. In 1938 he earned the title of Champion of Northwest Ohio, featherweight division. In 1939 he married the former Regina (Virgie) Wilhelm. He retired in 1972 from Doehler Jarvis, Division of National Lead and he and Regina were active in various retiree circles. While in Toledo, he was a member of St. Stanislaus Parish where he was an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Council of Catholic Men. He will be remembered as one of the first lectors after Vatican II and for serving as an acolyte at Mass until in his 80s. He was also a member of the Guard of Honor at Visitation Monastery and a member of the Third Order of St. Francis for almost 80 years. After Regina died in 1997, he moved to Marian Place in Monroe, Michigan and became a member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish. Everyone who met him commented about his engaging smile. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Reverend Joseph, OFM, Theofil, Anthony, Leo, and Aloysius; four sisters, Sophie Czerniakowski, Mary Czerniakowski, Theresa Szydlowski, and Helen Landowski, and son-in-law Thomas A. Wagner. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Margaret Wagner of Monroe; grandson, Thomas Wagner, Newport; granddaughters, Monica Wagner and Angela (Deric) Tedora, and great- grandchildren, Anna Renee, Mary Grace, and Dominic Tedora of Monroe. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Sujkowski Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy., Toledo, Sunday, August 15 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 16, 2010 at St. Michael the Archangel Church (502 W Front St., Monroe, MI 48161) at 10:00 a.m., where friends will be received after 9:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Toledo, Ohio.

One of my fondest memories of Mr. Landowski happened on November 15, 1975 - Mr. Landowski graciously posed for a photo with the 3 bridesmaids Marge had chosen to be part of her wedding. I was one of the 3!
