Donald Begley Obituary

Donald E. Begley II

06/13/54 - 8/21/23

Donald Edward Begley II was born in Montgomery, West Virginia to Donald and Helen Begley. The entire extended family moved to Toledo, Ohio during the late 1950s where Don was in the Boy Scouts of America, and Sons of the American Revolution. He attended Horace Mann Elementary School, Jefferson Middle School, and graduated from Whitmer High School in 1972, where he met his life-long friend Tom Barriger. Don graduated from Vanderbilt University with a bachelor degree in Business and Economics. He returned to Toledo where he worked in the sales industry taking him from insurance to the IT industry with the Federal Government in DC. He met his wife, Mary E. Butler, in 1974 and married on November 3, 1984. Their mutual love of music led them to play piano and sing for many weddings, funerals, and festivities. In 1985, they moved to Virginia where he worked for the WANG Corporation in Bethesda, MD. Don worked for a variety of companies in the Washington DC area until his death. Don loved life to its fullest and thrived on being around people. Upon retirement, he joined the Annadale Rotary where he served 2 terms as President, and was previously involved in the Toledo Jaycees. In recent years, Don's health presented him with many challenges, but his moto was always, "I am still fighting." Don's fight ended when the Lord called him home on August 21, 2023. His wife, Mary, held him in her arms as she sang "How Great Thou Art" and he took has last breathe before going home to his Eternal Father.

Don is preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; his parents, Don and Helen Begley; and his in-laws, Ralph and Marcelene Butler. He is survived by his wife, Mary; brothers, Jonathan (Esmerelda) and Andrew; and his cousin, Greg Farmer (Karen). He had 3 brother and sister-in-laws, John (Margaret) Butler, Harley (Joan) Butler), and Ramon (Paula) Butler; 11 nieces and nephews; 13 great- nieces and nephews; 3 great-great- nieces and nephews. Don loved his beloved canine, Della Rose who was always at his side. A memorial service will be held for Don on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, 1853 South Avenue, Toledo, Ohio.

I am saddened to hear of Don´s recent passing. He was a dear friend as we enjoyed the love of music while playing in the Whitmer High School Band. He was very talented and I enjoyed his piano playing and his velvet voice. He possessed a wonderful sense of humor as well. May he rest in eternal peace.
