Dora Herold Obituary

Dora J. Herold

On Monday November 8, 2021, Dora Herold, 97, loving wife and mother went into the arms of the Lord very gently and peacefully in her sleep.

She was born in Elkhart, Indiana, on October 11, 1924, to Larvy Davis and Sadie Hickman. Following their tragic death, Dora was adopted by Jacob and Reva Stump, friends of her mother, who brought her to Toledo. She graduated from Libbey High School in 1942 and attended Toledo University. On a double date with other people, she met Ralph Herold and on October 2, 1948 and they were married lasting almost sixty years until his death in 2008.

She had a passion for flower arranging and joined Anthony Wayne Garden Club where she was a long time member entering many shows at the Toledo Botanical Garden. Eventually she became a member of the Ohio Council of Nationally Accredited Flower Show Judges and was member and treasurer of the Garden Forum.

A tennis enthusiast, she played for many years with various groups at Laurel Hill Swim and Tennis club and played her last doubles match at age 87. She was also a member of various bridge groups over the years and loved the challenge of the game.

She attended Broadway Methodist Church then Zion United Methodist Church all her life, singing in the choirs and playing the bells, as well as working in the women's organizations and attending General Conference, in Lakeside, Ohio.

She and Ralph also attended the Toledo Symphony concerts through the years and loved introducing their children to the symphony and musical theatre as well.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings and her husband, Ralph. She is survived by their three children, Jennifer (John) Oster, Mark Herold, and Julie (Terry) McKamey. She has ten grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, on Sunday, November 14th, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be from the funeral home on Monday beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.

Dora's family would like to deeply thank the staff of Ohio Living Swan Creek for their stellar care, and for Sandy, RN hospice nurse, for being as special as she is.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Living Hospice, 1730 S. Reynolds Rd., Toledo, Ohio 43614.

Dear Jennifer, Mark, Julie, and Family,
I just read the paper and saw where your mother passed away. My sympathies go out to all of you.
I attended Zion UMC from 1956-1986. I knew your parents and you growing up. I sang in the choir and was a member of the UMW with your mother. A lot of great memories.
Jennifer you and I crossed paths back in 2006 when Bob attended rehab at St. Luke´s. Bob passed away in 2016. I remarried and live in Whitehouse.
Again I wish to express my sympathies to all you in the passing of your mother.sorry that I didn´t see the article in time to attend the viewing.
Hugs and prayers to all of you,
Melinda ( Mercer-Grant) Hipsher
