Doris TRUMM Obituary

TRUMM Doris Fox 7/27/1921 - 2/27/2010 Doris Trumm, a 48-year resident of Ottawa Hills, died peacefully on Saturday after a long and graceful struggle with Alzheimer's and arthritis. She was 88. Born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania as the second of four girls, Doris studied music and home economics at Temple University where she was crowned Queen of May and was a featured soloist with the Marine Corps Band in radio concerts on KDKA, Pittsburgh. A strong and independent woman, Doris worked as a kindergarten teacher on a military base in North Carolina, a home economist for Westinghouse, a switchboard operator for a hospital, and in other capacities, sometimes holding as many as three jobs at once. She was proud to be able to purchase her own New Jersey home in the 1950s-an unusual accomplishment for a single woman in that era. In 1956, she met Bruce Trumm, who proposed marriage to her on their first date. The couple were wed and subsequently moved to Toledo. There, Doris mothered Bruce's three children, Fredrick, Bruce II and Deborah and gave birth to James in 1960. Doris was active in the First Unitarian Church of Toledo and the Ottawa Hills community. She was a founding member of the Ottawa Hills Music and Theater Association and was an active parent and grandparent to two generations of Ottawa Hills students. From 1978 to 1984, she cared for her husband Bruce in their home following a devastating stroke. She then became certified as a Body Recall instructor and taught senior exercise classes at various locations in Toledo. In her last years, Doris lived quietly at home. Disease took its toll and her capacity to remember declined, but she remained her sweet, polite self, grateful for every kindness and delighted by visiting family and friends. During that time, her life was immeasurably enriched by an extraordinary group of loving caregivers including Joanie, Krystal, Courtney, Cindy, Kelly, Erica, Jenna and Jill. Doris is predeceased by her grandson, Ryan and is survived by her children, Fredrick, Bruce II, Deborah and James, her grand-children, Taylor, Danna, Samantha, Natalie, Scott, Marc, Melissa, Joshua and Spencer and great-grand-children, Olivia and Eli. She will be missed by daughters-in-law, Sherry, Janie and Susan, as well. The Trumm family invites friends to share their memories of Doris with them on Wednesday evening at 6:00 to 9:00 at Doris' home. Please contact Jim or Susan at 419-531-0234 for directions or further details. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in her memory to the Ottawa Hills Music and Theater Association, c/o Ottawa Hills Schools, 3600 Indian Road, Toledo, OH 43606. Arrangements by Walker Funeral Home (419-841-2422). Condolences may be sent to the family at: www.walkerfuneralhomes.com

My sincere sympathy to Doris' family whom she loved! She often spoke of you. I became very fond of her during the ten years she taught Body Recall at our church. All of her students loved and admired her, as did I. She was a wonderful, gentle, warm, generous person.

My condolences to the family of Doris and Bruce Trumm. I worked for Bruce in the mid 60's at the Libbey Plant. I have fond memories of the "Clambakes" and "Hearts Games" I enjoyed in the Trumm home. Knowing Doris and Bruce was a delight.
