Edmund Pond Lawrence, Jr. MD

Edmund P. Lawrence, Jr., MD, 71, of Perrysburg, OH. passed away Monday, April 30, 2018 at his home. Edmund practiced neurosurgeory at St. Vincent and St. Luke's Hospital. He was born September 18, 1946 in Buffalo, NY to Edmund P. and Ruth (Jones) Lawrence, Sr. Edmund earned his Bachelor of Science from Washington & Lee University, his Master's degree from Vanderbilt University and a Neurology and Neurosurgical Specializations from Northwestern University. He married Morgan A. La Pat on July 10, 1970.

Edmund is survived by his wife, Morgan; son, Maximillian; and brother, William Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sally Lawrence.

Edmund was the epitome of a Renaissance Man. He loved medicine, painting, music, literature and history. (Most importantly he loved Morgan.) He engaged each one with 100 percent devotion. He believed in his moral compass and followed the principle of doing the next right thing.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Witzler-Shank Funeral Home of Perrysburg, OH (419-874-3133). A memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org)

I just learned of Dr. Lawrence death today 1/14/20. Dr. Lawrence performed two rare and life saving brain surgeries on me. 1st surgery in 1987 the 2nd in 1998. I thank God for placing Dr. Lawrence in my life. May he rest in peace.

Recently heard from a friend of Dr Lawrence's passing, just wanted to express my sympathy to his family.
I had the good fortune of working with him at St Vincent's Hospital back in the 90's. He had so much information to share while doing the cases, a great teacher with a wonderful sense of humor that seemed to destress all involved.

a wonderful dr. he was so sorry for the families loss.was just looking him up wanted to thank him and tell him how I was doing.he brought me thru an unoperable frontal brain anerisum in 03 was flown from Monroe hospital and theyall said I was first to have a tv in my ICU room we had some laughs after I was better,and my first memory of seeing him on a check up was him looking and pointing at me he said "you should not be here standing in front of me..Im a gifted neuro surgeon but he pointed up I think we had help from further up"

Thank you Dr. Lawrence for fusing c-5 and c-6 in my neck back in the year 1996, as well as installing two Orion Plates on the same neck bones. Thank you for sewing my head back together from the front to the back. I believe God is in control of "all things", and God used you to save my physical life. I could never thank you enough for being a good and faithful servant for our Lord.

I worked at the same hospital as did Dr. Lawrence. I also worked briefly in surgery and witnessed how focused he was as a surgeon. He absolutely loved what he did. He was funny and very entertaining. A very passionate man. Of all the neurosurgeons at work, he was my favorite. My condolences to his wife and son.

Dr. Lawrence was a brilliant man. I met him when I was 18 after a car accident with a back issue, and I was absolutely afraid of what was going to be said. When he walked in the room his presence brought ease to my worries because I knew I was in great hands. I used him a total of 3 times for surgeries, and I trusted him with my life. This man was an amazing person and I am so thankful to have met him. My condolences to his family, and to everyone whose lives have been touched by such an amazing person.

After an accident where my spine was fractured, it was 11pm before I was transferred to St. V's because I wanted Ned as my doctor. A nurse evidently phoned him and the next thing I knew, I could hear him coming down the hallway asking for me. He moved me off the hard board I had been on for 5 hours, examined me, got me into a private room and left about 1am once he knew I was settled in and comfortable. He was not only a brilliant neurosurgeon, he was a caring and compassionate man. The world is a little less bright without him in it.

We are very sad to hear that the greatest neuro-surgeon has passed and would like to express our deepest sympathy to his family. Dr. Lawrence did our sons surgery back in July 1996 to remove a brain tumor. He will always be our hero...the one that helped save our sons life! We will never forget him. Rest in peace.
