Collen I was sorry to read about the passing of your father. Jack and I want to send our sincere sympathy.

Dear Mike and family,
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. He was truly an inspiration in my life coaching me in football and basketball. While playing basketball at Central, I used some of his pattened moves he taught us, like putting the ball between your legs and faking like you are going up for a shot, and then after everybody jumps, you go up for an easy score. You can be real pround of your fathers legacy.
Sincerely,

John Szychowski

Dear Mary and Costain Family,

My memory of your dad is of a no-nonsense coach, even of girls babsetball when we had such a thing as 'roving guards'. UGH! Truly, it was a good time to grow up, around parents like ours that were involved in our lives without hovering! I know I always liked being around the Costain house. I send loving thoughts from all of the Hunter clan to all of you! Annette

My sympathy and condolences to you and the family. He was my coach in basketball and track at the Cathedral. I disappointed him when I chose swimming over basketball in 5th grade, but always congradulated me when I got my name in the paper. He was a good man and I won't forget him

Mary and Mike,
As a young boy, we look to our fathers, teachers and coaches as role models. We listen to what they have to say, watch what they do, and attempt to model our lives after theirs. Your husband and father was truely one of the biggest models in my life.
Please accept my warm condolences, and know that your husband and father will be missed, but his life will be celebrated by many.

Mrs. Costain and Family,

Mr. Costain was always so nice to me and my family. Growing up in the Old West End was such a special place. When I heard of the passing of Mr. Costain I took a step back to think of the great coach and great person he was. Rosary Cathedral has so many great people because of the lives that Mr. Costain has touched. I wish the family my sincerest sympothy.

Sincerely,

Jim Forrester

He'll be tooling around Heaven in a red 57 Chevy station wagon, smoking cigars, and sinking hook shots from half court.

Ed Costain was a truly decent man, an admirable man. He improved many lives, including my own and especially my sisters who he treated like his own family. Some of my fondest memories in life happened in the back yard on Fulton street. I had no game, but he still treated me like one of the guys.

God bless his soul, and to the Costain family my deepest sympathies. I hope you find comfort in knowing that so many people have a deep and long lasting affection for the man you shared with us.

To my family...
I love you all and you are so dear to me. Grandpa was an amazing man and such a joy to be around. His hugs and kisses will forever be missed. We will always reminisce our wonderful memories and cherish them for all the days to come. We will laugh, and carry on as god and grandpa would want. My prayers continue daily for our family as we grieve through our loss and as god gives us our daily strength to heal. In the name of the father, son,and the holy spirit...Amen
Love always,
Heather

We send our condolences to the Costain family on their loss, but celebrate the life of Mr. Costain. He gave so much to all of us who benefited from his love of sports and his leadership. He always taught us to do the right thing, even when it was difficult to do so. He inspired many of us to participate in the lives of others through coaching. This was his gift to us, helping others achieve their goals. Thank you, Mr. Costain.

Dear Mrs. Costain, Mike, Ann Marie, Colleen, Mary and Kathleen,

I am so very sorry for the loss of your Dad. He had a big impact on my life at Cathedral and I owe my lifelong love of sports to him. I can't tell you how many great memories I have of my football playing days at Cathedral when he and Pat Henmdricks coached as well as the time I spent as manager of the basketball teams. I learned a lot of basketball from your Husband and Dad. As I told Mike last week, he is what we call a great man! He will be etched in my memory forever. You all should be very proud to have him as a Husband and father.

God Bless,
T-Bone

My sincere condolences go out to the Costain family. Ed's passion for basketball and his teaching of that game to me has impacted my entire life. I was taught the game by the best coach, with the expectation to try harder, and to always be the better person. What a great lesson to learn. To Mrs. Costain, Mike, and the girls, Ed gave me the desire and will to show strength and competiveness at an early age. Certainly, athletics has been a way of life for me, my wife, and my kids. We celebrate Ed's death for what he taught us and gave to us. You can achieve everything with hard work. Thanks, coach! John Wieck and family
