Emily (Limmer)
Halbert
Emily (Limmer) Halbert, 81, passed away on October 9, 2022, at Ebeid Hospice after a short illness surrounded by family. Emily was born February 17, 1941, to Lester and Gertrude (Heckart) Limmer in Toledo, Ohio. Raised on the East side and in Oregon, Ohio, she graduated from Clay High School in 1959. Emily worked at the Lutheran Children's Home after high school, developing a passion for fostering children that persisted for many decades. She met her husband, Franklin Halbert, on a blind date, the two redheads hit it off and married at St. Mark's Lutheran Church on August 4, 1962.
Emily and Frank were blessed with six children of their own and fostered many others throughout their marriage. She stayed home to care for their children until 1973, when she began working for the Washington Local School system as a playground supervisor. She later became a bus driver for the district, a position she very much enjoyed until her retirement in 1987.
Emily was an avid gardener, baker, cook, and singer. She sang in church choirs, first at St. Mark's as a child, and finally at Grace Lutheran until 2014, when her hearing loss prevented her from doing so. She loved to read her Bible in the evenings and would highlight passages and recite them before bed. She was an avid Ohio State football, Toledo Mudhens, and Toledo Walleye fan. Friends and acquaintances alike would tell you she was kind and always had a smile on her face. She found great comfort in her family, church and faith as her health declined.
Emily is survived by daughters, Donna (Edward) Seidowsky of Toledo, Patricia (Gary Challender) Halbert-Raich of Brooklyn, MI, Pamela (Scott) Fleck of Sylvania, Dr. Erin (Ronald) Rinto of Monclova; sons, Franklin II (Dawn) and William (Teri Leutz) Halbert, both of Toledo; grandchildren, Michael Patlin, Wesley Seidowsky, Robyn (Russ) Willoughby, Cody (Courtney) and Dr. Cameron Raich, Kyle and Kelsey Fleck, Tatianna Murphy, Heaven (Dylan Pack) Brown, Gavin, Emma, and Luke Rinto; 11 great-grandchildren, Kylee, Kayla, Devin, Liam, Prudence, Wyatt, DJ, Darren, Daniel, Ridge, and Maya; 2 great-great-granddaughters, Leilani and Mahina. She is also survived by brothers, Leslie (Martha) and Martin Limmer of Oregon, Ohio, and Michael Limmer of Ypsilanti, MI; sister-in-law, Darlene Limmer of Rossford. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank of 53 years; brother, Mark Limmer; and great-granddaughter, Audrey Patlin.
