MC QUILLIN Frana Rose (nee Romp) Frana Rose McQuillin (nee Romp) passed away peacefully at home March 16, 2010, surrounded by members of her loving family. She was born in Gates, Pennsylvania, on April 26, 1927 and moved to Ohio as an infant. Frana was a graduate of Waite High School in Toledo, the University of Toledo (B.S.), and Kent State University (B.S. and M.A.). She was active in campus organizations, and was one of ten women students at TU elected to the Senior Women's Honorary group, "Peppers." She was also a member of Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society, the International Society, and president of Pi Gamma Mu honor society at the University of Toledo. Frana was a resident of Elyria since 1955, and was a member of the First Methodist Church. She volunteered in the church school, the P.T.A., Boy Scouts, A.A.U.W., and at Elyria Memorial Hospital, where she was a volunteer for over twenty years. Frana taught sixth grade for 22 years in the Avon Lake Schools, retiring in l987. Teaching 6th graders was fun, but a lot of hard work! Frana was the first to teach basic First Aid to the 6th graders of Avon Lake. She took her own 6th grader (daughter Trish) to the American Red Cross in Elyria to see how a 6th grader would handle such classes, and Trish loved it! Frana then began teaching the First Aid class to the 6th graders at Westview Elementary, and then later (when the 6th grade was moved to junior high) to the students at Troy Junior High School. Frana loved teaching, and was very sad when her doctor told her she could not continue because of her rare bleeding diseases (HHT), which led to heart failure. She was a member of the Avon Lake Education Association, N.E.O.T.A.; and a Life Member of O.E.A. and N.E.A. Frana was always interested in family history. Along with her hobbies of painting, quilting, and reading was the one which occupied her retirement years: researching and writing a brief history and anecdotal record of her parents and their families and descendants. Also, she loved to travel and was able to visit many parts of the United States and Europe. In 1990, Frana was one of the founding directors of the HHT Foundation International, and served on the International Board of Directors from 1991-1995. The Foundation is devoted to education, research and self-help concerning Frana's inherited illness of the rare disease known as Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (formerly known as Rendu-Osler-Weber Syndrome). Frana is survived by her loving husband, Wayne R. McQuillin of Elyria whom she married November 24, 1948; her children: Scott E. and his wife Terry L. of Naples, Florida; Steven J. of Westlake; Richard R. and his wife Riko K. of Manhattan Beach, California; and Patricia A. McQuillin Voss and her husband Mark, of Damascus, Oregon; her grandchildren: Erick W. Goudie of Bozeman, Montana, Nicholas K. and Brienna R. Goudie of Damascus, Oregon, Richard K. and Sean K. McQuillin of Manhattan Beach, California; her sister, Jean (Genevieve) Melchior of Oregon, Ohio, and her brother Edward Romp of Monclova, Ohio; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Elyria Public Library, 320 Washington Ave., Elyria, OH 44035. Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow; I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain; I am the gentle autumn's rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft star that shines at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there; I did not die. Author Unknown
