Fred Ferguson Obituary

Fred R. Ferguson

Fred R. Ferguson, 78, of Monclova Township (formerly of Shoreland) passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018 surrounded by his family after a hard fought five-year battle with cancer. He was born to Fred and Clara (Kurth) Ferguson.

Fred's parents, brother James, and an infant daughter preceded him in death.

Fred was a 30-year employee and retiree of Dana Corporation. In retirement, he enjoyed competing in the Dana Retiree Golf League, as well as mowing the greens at Detwiler Golf Course. An accomplished golfer, Fred loved golf trips with his buddies to Myrtle Beach. Fred had four holes-in-one and thoroughly enjoyed his golf game.

However, it was his family that provided him with his greatest joy, where he was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Fred was married for 57 years to Beverly and together they raised three sons, Dean (Barbara), Marty (Kim), and Andy (Denise). Fred coached all three sons in the Trilby Baseball Association over many years and many age levels of baseball.

Fred also took an active interest in the lives of his grandchildren, Matthew, Malory, Kelly, Tim, Katelyn, and Ryan.

A lifelong Cleveland sports fan, Fred loved the Indians the most, becoming a fan during the 1948 World Series, and remained a diehard fan for the next 70 years. He enjoyed trips to both Cleveland Stadium and Progressive Field to cheer on the Indians.

Friends and family will be received on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, OH from 1:00 p.m. until the time of Services at 2:30 p.m.

Fred was a great neighbor. I remember the games of catch we would play, hitting golf balls in Shoreland Park, helping him paint your house on Patriot (until he politey fired me). I regret missing his services.
