Frederick Miller Obituary
Frederick L. Miller, 90, died October 7, 2018 peacefully at his home in Vero Beach, Florida following a short illness. His memorial service and internment will be held December 1st, 11:00 a.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church, Vero Beach.
Fred was born on September 1, 1928 to Olive and Fredrick Miller of Fremont, Ohio. Having lost his parents at age three, Fred was loving raised by his maternal aunt and grandmother - Mary and Augusta Bell. After graduating from Scott High School in Toledo, Ohio, he joined the US Army Infantry, serving, with distinction, with The American Occupation Force in Japan.
Following military service Fred returned to Toledo where he became a lifelong resident. In retirement Fred and his wife Ruth moved to Vero Beach, Florida.
A graduate of The University of Toledo, Fred met and married his wife of 66 years - Ruth Crockett.
Partnering with his father in-law James Crockett, Fred and Jim built a successful insurance agency. Serving on The University of Toledo Athletic Association Board of Directors, Fred was an avid sportsman and supporter of The University. As President of the Toledo District Golf Association, Fred worked to grow the game he so loved.
A sixty year member of The Trinity Episcopal Church of Toledo, Ohio, Fred served as Senior Warden of the Vestry. His life is marked by an unwavering dedication to God and the Episcopal faith.
Fred will be remembered for his devotion to his beloved wife Ruth, love of family, kindness, joyful spirit and love of God.
Fred was preceded in death by his sister Jane. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; son, James; daughter, Suzanne Mellott; niece, Mary Ann Baxter and grandchildren.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Trinity Episcopal Church in Vero Beach, Florida or Toledo, Ohio.
Arrangements are under the direction of Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach.

As a friend of Fred and Ruth's son, Jim, I had the opportunity to get to know Fred over the years while growing up in Sylvania. As a kid, Fred was simply known as "Jim's Dad". Somehow he was tolerant of young boys and their toys, 60's music and then high school craziness when we came over to the Millers house. It is a tribute to Fred that Jim always kept me and the other guys updated on what his mom and dad were doing, right up to the present time. The strong Miller family bonds were evident to me and will surely continue as fond memories. May peace, comfort and strength be with the entire Miller family.

I knew Fred when I was five years old, or less. We lived on Putnam Street; Fred on Fulton Street. Fred was three years older - - - same age as my sister Peggy. Later when I was twelve I bought my paper route from Fred. Always liked him. - - Ed Weber

Fred was a wonderful gentleman, devoted husband and father, and friend. He was a successful businessman who shared his expertise with all who needed assistance. He was loved by all who knew him and will indeed be missed. He set a inspirational example for other but did so with humility and caring.
