Gary Metzger Obituary

Gary Dean Metzger

Gary Dean Metzger, age 78, of Ottawa Street in Toledo, passed away last week after a long illness. Gary was the third son of Edward John Metzger and Eunice Hamrock Metzger. His parents preceded him in death; as did his much loved sister-in-law, Marjorie Metzger. Gary is survived by his brothers, Edward (Ted) and Alan; and his sister-in-law, Janet Metzger. He is also survived by his eight nieces & nephews, Jennifer Metzger Jewell, Richard (Kim), Thomas (Vince), Emily Metzger, Michael (Terri), Molly Metzger Smith (Jay), David (Heather), and Kate Metzger Crowley (Chuck). Gary also leaves behind many friends, especially Robert and Sue Gorrell, Thomas Joyce, and John Lung.

Gary was born in Shaker Heights, Ohio and graduated from Wauseon High School in 1960. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Lehigh University in 1964. Gary began his career at National Machinery in Tiffin, Ohio. After several years, he joined his brothers in the family business, Multi-Cast Corporation in Wauseon, Ohio. Gary was known for his kindness and generosity. He was a lover of the arts and a supporter of the underdog. While he had no immediate family of his own, he helped many friends and family pursue their dreams and educations.

A memorial will be held at a later date for family and friends to celebrate Gary's life. The family requests those wishing to make a donation in Gary's name to consider one of his favorite charities: The Cherry Street Mission, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo, Wounded Warrior Project, and WGTE Public TV.

Gary,

I searched my photo files and located these photos of us from our December 5, 1967 Christmas Party at 675 Tiffin Avenue, Findlay, Ohio.
We had 2 guests registers a men and a women´s book. 60 men´s and 60 women signed each book. This was the beginning of the Findlay Singles Club. We met quarterly and had wonderful good functions, doing, Halloween and Picnic Events.
Our Christmas tree was awesome. To enter the party, the guest has to bring an ornament for the tree.

We did not take the tree down until March. We opened the living room window and tossed the tree out from the second floor, it was too dry to move it.

I don´t think Findlay ever had another Christmas Party like ours? Rest in Peace!

Dear Gary?

We have many memories together when we shared a beautiful apartment in Findlay, Oh and started a Single Group, December 7, 1967 when 120 men and women signed our registration that began the beginning of a wonderful group in Findlay.

I just learned of you passing in 2021. It breaks my heart to learn this.

Rest in Peace dear friend!

I first met Gary as one of my regulars at Olive Garden. He wanted only the best for people and was one of THE most generous men I have ever met. We became very close friends. He payed my way though college so I could get a degree. I will forever be grateful to him and he will be missed dearly.

I enjoyed knowing for close to 25 years. I still carry his "retirement business card" with me. "An expert in all things unimportant". We enjoyed listening to music together. I will miss him. Ric
