Gary Zink Obituary

Gary Zink

Gary Zink, 72, of Toledo, OH, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 14, 2021, from complications of a stroke. Gary graduated from Bedford High School in 1967 and went on to pursue professional culinary training at the Culinary Institute of America in New Haven, Connecticut. After completing his training, he worked for Gladieux Foods, but spent the majority of his culinary career at Dana Corporate Headquarters. He finally retired from Kroger in 2011 after working many years in the meat department.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors, kayaking, fishing, and biking all throughout the summer. He spent most of his retired years volunteering in the community, the God Works ministry at Crossroads in Ottawa Lake, and other various churches. Gary is remembered most by others for his kindness, generosity, and servant heart. He would never hesitate to lend a hand to someone who needed help, whether it be a neighbor who needed something fixed around the house or a car that needed to be restarted.

For his family he will always be a loving and supportive husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Marla, of 35 years; and leaves behind 3 children, Todd (Megan) Zink, Rebecca (James) Dorton, Leia (Andrew) Misiolek; 6 grandchildren; his sister, Diana (Lawrence) Sayre; and his dog Doyle. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Chester and Ferne Zink.

The family will be holding a memorial service for Gary on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. at Church 3TwentyOne, 5845 Centennial Road, Sylvania, OH 43560. In lieu of flowers the family asks that any donations in Gary's honor go toward the Cherry Street Mission or the Toledo Humane Society. Arrangements were handled by Walker Funeral Home, Toledo. We're so sorry for your loss. What a lovely phrase "a servant's heart" to apply to Gary. He was a kind man and will be missed. May the love of family and friends help you through this time of sorrow.

I will remember Gary for his servants heart, warm smile and gentle words as he served at Cherry Street Mission with me. He was Jesus with skin.
